SocialHRCamp was founded and launched in early 2012. Camps have been run in Vancouver twice, Toronto twice, San Francisco twice, and Boston. Smaller-scale events were run in Singapore, Manila, Chicago and Atlanta.
Each Camp attendee registers through an Eventbrite registration page. During this process they are asked to respond to 3 key non-mandatory questions about their social media use. 336 of Camp attendees in 2012 and 2013 provided useful data to these questions, which forms the basis of this report.
2. Social Media…
is no longer just a tool for Marketing and Communications; it’s for all
facets of Human Resources.
More than 25% of SocialHRCamp attendees picked learning how to use social
media for recruitment as the number one thing they wanted to learn about.
Branding is playing an increasingly significant role
in HR, and social media, is the most powerful brand
engagement and awareness tool today. We know
HR is traditionally slow to adopt technology, but,
they are finally taking cues from Marketing, and are
learning about consumer behavior—buying
decision-making, media channels and customer
segmentation, and how social media fits into this.
Even though HR fully recognizes this shift, specifically
social media, it continues to struggle to integrate into
HR business practices. This seems logical because
within the SocialHRCamp attendee population, only
67% currently use LinkedIn, 65% Twitter and 52%
Facebook for personal use. These figures are far
below research that exists regarding social media use
by Marketers that reports 91% use LinkedIn, 85%
Twitter and 81% Facebook.

3. SocialHRCamp is about helping HR Practitioners adopt social media in the workplace. Emerging HR software
companies and industry thought-leaders play pivotal roles in delivering a hands-on and interactive Camp
experience for attendees.
To shape each Camp agenda we ask attendees 3 questions during registration.
1. How would you rate your level of proficiency using social media?
2. Which of the major social media platforms do you use?
3. Regarding social media and HR, what is the number one thing you want to
learn most about?
With 80% of SocialHRCamp attendees selfreporting that they use social media on at least a
fairly regular basis, the core problem that the HR
Community faces in adopting social media is not a
technical one. Rather, it’s a “how do I integrate
what I already know into HR strategy” one.

7. About SocialHRCamp
About This Report
Founded in early 2012, SocialHRCamp is the catalyst
to accelerating social media adoption in Human
Resources, globally. The value social media offers
HR is infinite, yet the industry lags behind in
adoption. SocialHRCamp aims to solve this
problem by bringing together HR practitioners, HR
software companies and industry thought-leaders
for one full day to learn “how to” use social media in
the workplace.
This report captures response information
provided by SocialHRCamp attendees during the
Camp registration process. 336 of Camp
attendees in 2012 and 2013 provided useful data
to the three non-mandatory questions. Seven
Camps took place in Vancouver, Toronto, Boston
and San Francisco.
Due to growing demand and increasing adoption of
social media within specific market segments,
starting in 2014 SocialHRCamp will be launching
four channels—HR Community, Corporate HR
Teams, Business Schools and HR Associations.
