Mother's Day - Humanistic Parenting
1. What my mother taught me
about being human
A Lesson in
Humanistic Parenting
For Mother’s Day
by Jennifer Hancock,
Humanist
2. Honesty is the best policy
You can’t fix problems
unless you
acknowledge the
problem exists!
It takes more energy to
lie and it makes things
worse. I couldn’t fool
her anyway.
Plus … it’s just plain
rude to lie.
3. I wouldn’t do that.
But what do I know.
You are free to do whatever you want.
But with that freedom comes responsibility.
If you do something stupid, you will have no
one to blame but yourself.
4. Help others - Volunteer
Good people help
others. It’s just what
you do.
Volunteering your
time fills your life
with meaning and
purpose and
amazing experiences.
5. It takes two to fight
Be responsible for your part of any
disagreement. You can’t control the other
person, but you can control yourself.
So get off your high horse and apologize.
6. Insecurity is normal
We all have our
moments. We all have
our quirks. My mom’s
quirks make her
unique and awesome!
People love you
because of your flaws,
not despite your flaws.
So take a deep breathe,
yawn and go on.
7. It’s worth the effort
Being a mom is hard.
It’s scary and exciting
and exhausting and
you are constantly
screwing up.
You never stop
worrying.
It’s worth it!

Thank you mom, for helping
me to become the person
and the mom I am today! I
learned from the best.
