CONCLUSION
The purpose of the magazine is to inform people about pop music in Hertfordshire and help them discover new music and different music events that might appeal to them. Furthermore it helps promote Hertfordshire based music artists.
The unique selling point of the magazine is that there is no other magazine that is coley for Hertfordshire pop music however that doesn’t mean there still isn’t a need or want for it from people in the local area.
Competition from other magazines is Billboard Magazine. This is because they promote different genres of musics and will have interviews with different artists about music genres. Billboard magazine also provides information on events, Billboard magazine also changes of genre it focuses on each issue depending on artists they want to promote and have on their front cover. The magazine is often only about american music.
This is because they focus on Hertfordshire life and provide information on different events in the local area and so it could have an issue different music venues. this provides competition because my magazines is to inform about different music genres in Hertfordshire that includes mentioning the different music events and venues. The yearly subscription is £78 which is a good price and provides competition to about £75 a year.
NME: It is a music magazine that provides information on pop music and different culture news. This is competition to my magazine because it give information on pop music, which is similar to my magazine. Their magazine includes pop culture information, however in recent years they shifted their focus to British bands and that gives some competition because it often focus on the smaller, up and coming groups and my magazine focuses on the small Hertfordshire local musicians who don't usually have a big following.
The theme of my magazine is a music magazine and it is used to promote different music genres in Hertfordshire. The first issue of my magazine will be a pop magazine. The size of my magazine will be 65 pages per issue, which will provide plenty of space for interviews of that genres artists, music venues and events that play that genre of music and different local and famous artists in Hertfordshire that play that genre of music. My magazine will be released every 3 weeks with 17 issues a year, the magazine will be both print and online to meet the Herts Magazine requirements.
The colour scheme of my magazine will be bright neon colours such as blue, purple and pink. This is because they are often colours reflective of pop music and the older side of my target audience, 40 year old, they like bright bold colours meaning this colour scheme would appeal to my target audience. The colour of my body text will be white with the background of my magazine being black so the bright colours can standout. The masthead will be white so it will stand out on the dark background.
By being an ABC1 the readers will be able to afford to attend any concerts, events or festivals suggested by the magazine and can afford any adverts in the magazine. My target audience often spends their free time listening to music or going to different music events. My magazine being both print and an online means that it appeals to both the older and younger generations of my magazine as younger audiences often prefer online magazines where as older generations prefer print magazines.
With a low budget the best way to keep some of the cost down is to not have a building and rather people work at home and meet for a weekly meeting to keep up to date on what work people have completed.
The magazine will be partially funded by the yearly subscription and whenever people buy the magazine on a one off subscription. It will also be funded by any sponsors who go in the magazine. However, the magazine couldn't charge a large as they wouldn't want pay large amount for a magazine that is starting out and still finding its audience. The magazine will also be funded by investors and I will do this by making promotional videos to give them a sample of the magazine and the inspiration of Herts Pop.
Use interns and people on apprentiships to also help keep my cost down.
The reels will include videos of making the magazine and the different areas that'll be featured, they will contain a flick through of that issue of the magazine to give the audience enough of what that issue will feature but not too much that they feel like they don't need to read the magazine. There will also be some grid photo posts to show in detail sections of the magazine and some of the images that'll be used. By using Instagram stories to keep the audience engaged and create a personal connection towards the magazine so more people are likely to get a yearly subscription or buy on off issues of the magazine. Stories will also contain swipe up links to that months issue and where to buy it The use of Instagram will also appeal to the younger side of my target audience as the are less likely to see print adverts and for the older side of my target audience I will use Facebook as most 40 year old have a Facebook account. By using social media I am able to reach a large audience from the platforms and it'll keep the cost low as the apps are free to use and content can be created with a phone and a laptop.
In conclusion, my magazine has found a gap in the market where it would thrive and be successful as there is not only Hertfordshire based music magazine. It also contains a great consideration toward my target audience of people who live in Hertfordshire or surrounding counties and are 20-40 year olds, this has been done by considering ways to appeal to them through choice of colours ad fonts. Furthermore, my magazine doesn't have a limited target audience and will appeal to a wide audience of people as a range of people from across Hertfordshire are interested in the music in the area and how to discover more local artists. Therefore, Herts Pop is likely to succeed in the market.
