A large part of the Norwegian gas and oil production facilities has reached their initial design life, but the respective fields are still producing substantial levels of hydrocarbons. In order to ensure technical and operational integrity of these ageing facilities the Norwegian oil industry Association (OLF) has initiated a project to establish the necessary standards and guidelines for assessing and ensuring safe life extensions. This paper presents this project and the headlines of these standards and guidelines.

Each offshore platform reaches the end of its lifetime at some point, and this necessitates decommissioning. This activity must be done safely, cost effectively and with as little environmental pollution as possible. While the life spans of these installations cover decades, they have not generally been designed with efficient decommissioning in mind. Moreover, the places where the facilities have been constructed are pivotal in defining the safest and most sustainable decommissioning method. This 3 day training course will address the key issues surrounding an offshore decommissioning project. You will be exposed to key lessons learnt from Frigg, NW Hutton and Ekofisk, as well as lesson specifically derived from projects in based in Asia. The course will also assist in understanding the planning and decision analysis in decommissioning projects and costs involved.

Offshore structures are used worldwide for a variety of functions and in a variety of water depths, and environments. Since right selection of equipment, types of platforms and method of drilling and also right planning, design, fabrication, transportation, installation and commissioning of petroleum platforms, considering the water depth and environment conditions are very important, this paper will present a general overview of these aspects. This paper reviews the fundamentals behind all types of offshore structures (fixed or floating) and, in the case of fixed platforms, will cover applications of these principles. The overall objective is to provide a general understanding of different stages of design, construction, loadout, transportation and installation of offshore platforms. Finally, for different sea-water depths, in which the Cyprus platforms are intended to be installed, suitable kinds of offshore platforms are proposed.

Offshore wind turbines are relatively complex structural and mechanical systems located ina highly demanding environment. In this study, the fundamental aspects and major issues related to the design of such structures are inquired. The system approach is proposed to carry out the design of the structural parts: in accordance with this philosophy, a decomposition of the system (environment, structure, actions/loads) and of the structural performance is carried out, in order to organize the qualitative and quantitative assessment in various sub-problems. These can be faced by sub-models of different complexity both for the structural behavior and for the load models. Numerical models are developed to assess the safety performance under aerodynamic and hydrodynamic actions. In the structural analyses, three types of turbine support structures have been considered and compared: a monopile, a tripod and a jacket.
