ensuring its smooth functioning with the goal of
ensuring a safe journey to all passengers
availing it. Different sectors of work include
security management, flight management,
commercial operations and overall
management of the employees.
• Airport Management is the team that manages
the operational needs of every airport in the
world. Their roles are to ensure the smooth

Traffic Report, there are currently 17,678 commercial airports in the
world, in other words those which receive airliners, cargo and business

Global Scenerio of Airport Management
• The United States have the highest density of airports in the world. It
has over 13,513 airports.
• The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) estimates that U.S.
airlines carried more passengers in 2019 than in any previous
year.January through December, U.S. airlines carried 925.5 million
passengers, the highest total based on comparable records since 2003.
• The number of flights performed globally by the airline industry
increased steadily since the early 2000’s and reached 38.9 million in
2019.
• In 2019, the number of scheduled passengers boarded by the global
airline industry reached over 4.54 billion people.

Reasons for Global Growth {3 MAIN Reasons}
REASON - 1
• First is the increase
in low-cost
carriers, who have
almost doubled
their market share
over the last 15
years.
REASON - 2
• . Second is the
growth of the
global middle
class, especially in
China.
REASON - 3
• Finally, there is
also the growth in
airport
infrastructure
spending, led by the
Asia Pacific region,
which has increased
the global carrying
capacity.

Indian Scenario of Airport Management
• The Indian Aviation Industry is currently one of the
fastest growing aviation industries in the world.
• There are two types of airports in India, which are
operated by AAI and operated by private
companies. The major airports such as Delhi,
Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore International
Airports have been already privatized. There is a
big trend in privatization of airports in India.
9. 9
• The aviation industry in India has a
compound annual growth rate of 18%.
• There are 454 airports and airstrips in
India, of which 16 are designated as
international airports.
• With an increase in traffic movement
during December 2009 the Indian
aviation sector saw an increase in
revenue by almost US$ 21.4 million.
• Airports in India are being ranked
among the top airports of the world.
• The Hyderabad International Airport
has been ranked amongst world’s¬top 5
Airports in the annual Airport Service
Quality passenger survey along with
airports at Seoul, Singapore, Hong Kong
and Beijing.

Current Scenario of Indian Aviation Industry
• Domestic scheduled carriers carried 144.17
million passengers during 2019, against
138.98 million passengers in 2018, data
issued by the DGCA.
• Demand for aircraft in India is expected to
be 1,750 by 2037.
• Back in late February, the ICAO and the
Airports Council International (ACI) have
projected the Asia-Pacific sector could
suffer losses close to $12 billion. Note -- this
was way before India announced a national
lockdown.
• Indian airlines are expected to post an
aggregate loss of over $600 million in FY20,
consultant Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation
(Capa) India said in a recent report.
• India will become the world’s third largest
aviation market around 2024 surpassing the
United Kingdom, according to global airlines’
body IATA’s 2018 report.
• India is the fastest-growing aviation market
and is expected to cater to 520 million
passengers by 2037.
• Turbo Aviation to launch new airline by mid-
2020, gets 100-million pounds funding from U
group

Airport Fees Rates &
Charges
Types of Charges
• RUNWAY CHARGES
• PASSENGER CHARGES
• SECURITY COSTS
• INFRASTRUCTURAL CHARGES
• PARKING CHARGES
• ENVIRONMENTAL CHARGES
• TERMINAL NAVIGATION
• GOVERNMENT TAXES
• Airport fees rates and charges
differ by airport to airport and
country to country.

Basis for fixing Price rates for different types of charges
• Fees charged by the airport for the use of runways and taxiways, usually as
an arrival or landing charge. It also based on the weight of carriers .
• Passenger fees are charged per on-board passenger by the airport. These
charges are normally billed to the airline, which then passes the cost onto
the passenger.
• Charges levied by the airport to airlines for the provision of security
personnel and equipment around the airport.
• Charges for the use of infrastructure facilities at an airport. Normally
consists of terminals, check-in areas, baggage equipment, airbridges etc.
Usually charged on a per movement basis.
13. 13
• Environmental charges are charged by airports in relation to their noise
and emissions impact. Aircraft types are normally categorised and a fee
placed against each according to their relative impact.
• Terminal navigation charges are for services used when flying in airport-
controlled airspace. Can be levied at many different sources including
airport, government or third-party provider.
• Taxes, normally on a per passenger basis, levied by the state and often
across the entire state but sometimes on an individual airport level.

CONCLUSION
• Despite the slowdown and slow recovery,
Indian Aviation industry sector still continues
to look promising.
• Middle class with increasing massive
purchasing power, low cost carriers providing
services at very attractive low fares, helps to
improve the sale of air tickets.
• As of 2018, the Asia Pacific region had the
highest share of airline passenger traffic
accounting for around one third of the global
total. The region also includes the busiest air
routes.

THANKYOU
The trajectory of the global airline industry is pretty much like that of an aircraft. At
times it takes off for the high skies and at times, it dips to ground levels. In between
these highs and lows, lies the story of the industry – of its survival, of the new and
emerging trends that fuel its growth.
