2. Who is the speaker that you chose?
What is the thesis of the speech?
3. Success
"Success is peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to do your best to
become the best that you are capable of becoming."- John Wooden
5. John
Wooden
Is affectionately Known as
“Coach”. He lead UCLA to
record wins that are still
unmatched in the world of
basketball. -TED.com
6. “Coach”
In his presentation Wooden
talks about his definition of
Success. He also discusses
the values and life lessons
that he has passed on to his
players, emphasizing that
success is much more
important than winning.
7. How did the speaker capture the
attention of the audience in his or her
introduction?
How did the speaker maintain the
engagement of the audience
throughout the speech?
8. He captured the attention of
the audience through his
wisdom. His values and life
lessons growing up is what
keep them interested.
He later maintained the
engagement of the audience
by throwing in a few jokes
or funny comments
throughout his speech.
9. Evaluate the speaker in terms of dynamism from 1
(lowest) to 5 (highest). What could the speaker
have done to increase his or her dynamism?
10. While evaluating the speaker and given
his old age at the time of his speech I
would give him a 3/5. Understanding
that he was older when he gave the
speech he was sitting the entire speech
and they maybe due to his health
conditions. He also carried notes to help
him keep on track. If he were much
younger at the time of the speech this all
may have been different.
12. Coach Wooden stuck to his
experiences and what his
knowledge was when it
came about success. He
always went back to “back
when I was young my
father” kinda story’s. He
was a very wise and
humble man.
13. What have you learned about delivery based upon
watching your presenter?
14. I learned that know matter how old you
may be, you still can get in front of a
crowd and make a difference in someone’s
life. I learned that even though his
presentation wasn’t super exciting and
interactive as some of the the other
presenters, he still got the point across and
the audience was still able to grasp what
he wanted them to learn. After watching
Coach Wooden’s TED presentation it
reminded me of the stories we may have
received from a grandpa or elderly
person. It may have not been something
that started out interesting but by the time
they were done you were able to grasp
that and forever keep the knowledge that
you learned from them.
15. Compare and contrast your speaker to Sir Ken
Robinson from the two videos you watched
(“Schools Kill Creativity” and “Changing Education
Paradigms”)
16. Due to age and probably health. John
Wooden’s presentation was completely
different from Sir Ken Robinson for the
fact that Ken was more active and mobile
and as for Wooden he was sitting. I also
noticed that Ken tried his best to keep the
crowd in it and Wooden kind just gave
you his presentation and thats it. Ken’s
delivered more of a comedic presentation
so that he can keep it interesting. They
both used jokes to get the crowds
attention however Robinson used more of
them. Wooden also kept everything real
he used real life examples and used a lot
more of his life as the lesson.
17. What tips can you give your classmates on
delivery for their upcoming speeches based ONLY
on your TED Talk?
18. • Know your topic
• Be Optimistic
• Keep the crowd involved
• Practice
• Keep eye contact
• Be clear
