Hotel in Itasca

Brown and Rebecca Darr and interview opportunities with Denise Brown and Rebecca

WHO: Denise Brown, Committed Advocate Against Domestic Violence
and sister of Nicole Brown Simpson
WHY: October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Denise Brown is coming to
Chicago to speak at WINGS Purple Tie Ball, being held on Saturday, October 22.
On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the
United States, making it an epidemic of that must be stopped. Denise Brown has been devoted
to the issue since 1984, and Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Arlen Spector have cited
Denise Brown as “having done more for the issue of domestic violence than any other
individual.”
WINGS is currently the largest domestic violence housing agency in the state of Illinois.
Based in Suburban Chicago, WINGS is an agency that provides housing, integrated services,
education and advocacy to end domestic violence. With 31 locations across Chicagoland,
WINGS serves adult and child victims in both the city of Chicago and its suburbs.
