Meiosis is a cell division process that produces gametes, such as sperm or egg cells, with half the number of chromosomes as normal body cells. During meiosis, DNA is replicated and the pairs of homologous chromosomes are separated and distributed into four daughter cells. Errors during meiosis can result in aneuploidy conditions, where an individual possesses an abnormal number of chromosomes.
