2. Relay for Life
 Began in the min 1980’s in Tacoma
Washington by Dr. Gordy Klatt.
 He spent 24hrs and more than 83 miles
running.
 Through the night his friends and family
participated and paid $25 to walk for 30 min
with him. He raised $27,000 that night

3.  To create more birthdays
 Relay For Life Mission Statement: The hope that
those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that
those who face cancer will be supported, and that
one day cancer will be eliminated.

4. Funding is needed;
 To pay for vendors & facility where the walk will be
taking place
 Clients, program staff, etc. are needed to coordinate
the walk and set up booths for the day of the event
 Volunteers are needed to participate in the walk
 To provide brochures and flyers that we can
distribute within our community

5.  Road to Recovery
Every day, cancer patients need rides to treatment. Some may not be
able to drive themselves, and family and friends cannot always help.
Our Road To Recovery program provides rides to patients who have
no way to get to their cancer treatment.
 College Scholarships
The American Cancer Society's Cancer Survivor College Scholarship
Program is an opportunity exclusively for students with a history of
cancer. Established in 2000, the program is designed to provide young
cancer patients/survivors assistance in pursuing higher education from
an accredited school. Talk to your local office to learn more.
 Look Good…Feel Better
In a Look Good…Feel Better session, trained volunteer
cosmetologists teach women how to cope with skin changes and hair
loss using cosmetics and skin care products donated by the cosmetic
industry.

7.  Brings a community together to walk in uniformity
 Raises money for American Cancer Society
 Provides resources for those affected with cancer and their
families
 Helps those who have had cancer or lost a loved one from
cancer to have a better disposition on life by bringing
people together who can relate.

8. Cancer is unfortunately very common and many of us know someone who has survived, is
fighting or has lost their battle to cancer.
The three most common types of cancer [Cancer.gov]
• Breast Cancer (Women) Estimated new cases: 226,870 / Deaths: 39,510
(Men) Estimated new cases: 2,190 / Deaths: 410
• Prostate Cancer: Estimated new cases: 241,740 / Deaths: 28,170
• Lung Cancer: Estimated new cases: 226,160 / Deaths: 160,340

9. This foundation uses critical thinking
 To decide on what fundraisers to have. Each
person participating must fundraise in order to
raise money for their team.
 To organize and setup walk so everything runs
smoothly. There is a committee of adept
individuals who volunteer their time to plan out the
day of the event from food to entertainment.
 To think with a purpose in mind. Each relay has a
set goal of money they would like to reach for the
foundation.
 To propagate task to the right individuals

10.  Many of the brochures have
personal stories that can help
you to relate to what they are
going trough.
 As a part of the committee
you must be able to look for
facts and data that support
your cause and make others
want to support it as well.

11. This foundation provides many services to those struggling with
cancer such as:
• Road to recovery which provides free rides to doctor
appointments for those who are unable to drive.
• Look good/feel better is a program where cosmetologist
volunteer their time to help women going through chemo feel
better by doing their makeup and providing wigs.
• College scholarships are also available to those who are or
have suffered with cancer.
• Reach to Recovery lets you talk to someone who has been
where you are and can understand and/or relate to what your
feeling.

12. My Connection
My grandmother and my uncle
have been both diagnosed with
breast cancer.
Because this runs in my family I
love the idea that we can come
together to support this wonderful
cause.
This year my
Mother, Grandmother, sister and I all
participated in this walk together.
My grandmother got to participate
in the survivor lap with my Mother
wearing her “caregiver” sash.

14. Their mission statement declares that, “Critical
thinking is essential if we are to get to the root of
our problems and develop reasonable solutions.
After all, the quality of everything we do is
determined by the quality of our thinking.”

15.  Objective is to get to the source of their problems
and explicate logical solutions.
 To have the knowledge that how well they do is
established by the quality of their thinking
 Form an association of people who want to improve
the lives of those in need

were released
during a relay in
honor of a three
year old little girl
who lost her battle
with cancer. When
the picture was
taken they noticed
the balloons formed
a heart in the sky.
