Tallinn Creative Hub is located in the former building of Tallinn City Central Power Station, which began operating in 1913 and closed in 1979. It can be said that only with the founding of the power station did the use of electric power become common and electricity an everyday perk.
The former power station’s first serious encounter with art occurred in 1977 when Andrei Tarkovsky used the complex as a set for his cult film ‘Stalker’.
The scene of Stalker entering the zone was filmed at the gate of the Creative Hub.

Thank you Dr Erik Braun, and the organisers European Cities Marketing and Garry White for inviting me! I am grateful to be here.
My second time to Biarritz, last time I was here was in late 1980’s Interrailing, slept on the beach. Today I stay at the
I have 30 minutes to summaries How Stieg Larsson’s Millennium has impacted on Stockholm and Sweden.
I am here to tell you about some of the work I have done for the Municipality of Stockholm especially findins from two studies on film-effects I have conducted evaluating the effects and value connected to the Millennium stories. One of the report has been commissioned by Stockholm Business Region, FilmRegion Stockholm Mälardalen and the other commissioned by the Swedish institute finalised in June. It is a media analysis were I went through hundreds of articles with prime focus on The Millennium and or Stieg Larsson and how Sweden or Swedishness is commented thru the lens of stories.
– and that the feelings from a big portion of how we interpret and relate to the world is through ficton and or subjective interpretation. Since the Millennium is so big and the parallels to actual and contemporary places are obvious – it seves as a great and example to discuss how fiction through literature and films affect our relation to places.
Last year I made a report about the effects and value the Millennium trilogy have on Stockholm
– with special focus on the three Swedish Millennium films.
So why film? These films are based on successful books..
Yes, of course we can’t separate the books from the films..
But most successful films – at least in Sweden are based on books. And We have the Yellow Bird – producer of Wallander and Millennium..
And it is when a book turns into a successful film that we can see the biggest effect on tourism for example.
The film makes the places more accessible – now you can see that you actually can gi there. Visualised.
Anyhow..
We knew there was a value… there are tourists coming to Stockholm with film arguments in their backpack.
But the tourist that actually takes the guided tours and buy the map are top of ice-berg,.
The tourist bureaus sees effect..
But since the films are reaching the big audience now it is this year and onwards that Stockholm expects the big effects..
So we made a scenario.. Similar with the one we did for Skåne and Wallander back in 2005-2006.
