July 2015–June 2016
Dear Friends,
The unforgettable victory over Lehigh in the
150th meeting celebrated at Yankee Stadium
last November sets the stage for a new season
with high aspirations. The members of the latest
recruiting class will augment a Lafayette roster
that hails from 21 states including Arizona,
California, Illinois, Massachusetts, and Texas. Only
an intensive effort by a dedicated coaching staff
recruiting on a national scale can produce such
a diverse and talented group, but it also requires
the tremendous resources that Friends of Football
provides to the football budget each year.
In addition to helping the staff attract the
finest talent, Friends of Football supplements
the program’s budget by providing first-class
equipment and uniforms, augmenting assistant
coaches’ salaries, assisting with team travel
expenses, and much more.
At the close of our last fiscal year, ending June
30, 2015, a total of $624,772 was contributed by
637 donors. In addition, $100,239 was given for
both annual and endowed football scholarships.
Alumni and friends who give to Friends of
Football have the satisfaction of directly
contributing to the success of our Division 1
football program.
Gifts of $1,826 allow supporters the opportunity
for closer involvement through the Sponsor-
A-Player program. Sponsor-A-Player helps
underwrite the equipment needs of incoming
first-year players, and donors will have the
chance to meet and get to know the player they
sponsor at our annual practice and dinner.
Finally, members of Friends of Football have a
chance to renew friendships and make new ones
through pre-game tailgates and team reunions.
Friends of Football plays a vital role in the
total experience of Lafayette football and
its student-athletes. Give to the Maroon
Club Friends of Football and contribute to a
championship tradition.
Make the Difference!
The Maroon Club Friends of Football works
under a balanced-budget format developed
with the director of athletics. Budgeted
expenditures are voted on by the Friends’
volunteer Steering Committee, which is
made up mostly of former football players.
Visit community.lafayette.edu/
friends-of-football for more information.
Annual Support. Gifts of any amount to Friends
of Football help the program meet its most
immediate needs and have a direct impact on
the success of the program.
Sponsor-A-Player. The Friends of Football
Sponsor-A-Player program provides an opportunity
to make a positive impact on a student-athlete’s
experience and strengthen bonds in the Lafayette
community. The suggested minimum gift is $1,826.
A gift at this level also qualifies the donor for
membership in the College’s Marquis Founders
giving society.
Scholarships
Friends of Football is committed to supporting
four of the football program’s 60 scholarships
allowed in the Patriot League. There are exciting
opportunities to help achieve this goal.
Named Maroon Club Scholarships (annual,
current use). These scholarships provide merit-
based financial aid for student-athletes, with
funds expended in full each year. Opportunities
begin at $15,000 per year, for a total of $60,000
over four years.
• A Full Scholarship—$60,000 per year
($240,000 over four years)
• Three-Quarters of a Scholarship—$45,000 per year
($180,000 over four years)
• A Half-Scholarship—$30,000 per year
($120,000 over four years)
• One-Quarter of a Scholarship—$15,000 per year
($60,000 over four years)
Endowments. Gifts to the endowment provide
a permanent source of support.
Endowed Scholarships
Opportunities to establish a named scholarship
for football begin at $50,000. Examples:
• A $1.2 million endowment provides $60,000 in
operating funds per year. This is the equivalent
of one full scholarship for one student-athlete
in perpetuity.
• A $250,000 to $750,000 endowment provides
$12,500 to $37,500 in operating funds per year.
This is the equivalent of a quarter to a half
scholarship for one student-athlete in perpetuity.
Established in 2002, the
Maroon Club Friends of
Football raises funds to
supplement the football
program’s operating
budget. Your support
helps Lafayette football
compete for Patriot League
championships.
