JOB DESCRIPTION
Monitoring and controlling product quality on a shift basis as per unit
regulations. Responsible for smooth and efficient control of process units to
meet the requirements of unit regulations.To familiarise myself with plant
procedures and to make use of it during start-ups, shutdowns and
emergencies.
ASSIGNMENT: OPERATIONS REPRESENTITIVE (Project Co-ordinator)
Roles, Responsibilities and Objectives
The main objectives of the assignment are to train the Visbreaker Operations Team to
operate the revised unitand assist with commissioning of the unit.
On completion of training, it is expected that the Visbreaker Operations Team should
understand and be able to complete the following:
Fully understand the overall purpose of the unit and be familiar with each piece of
equipment.
Be familiar with all new piping and be able to follow new line ups; know each tie-
in and take-off point including control stations.
Be able to identify all HC drain points and when to use including blinding steps
for shutdown and start-up.
Be able to execute the start-up procedure and actions to be taken during
commissioning of the Visbreaker.
Be able to execute the start-up sequence of individual equipment.
Fully understand the ESD systems’ functionality and when to activate each
system.
Be able to carry out unit checks and do hand held routes.
6. Fully understand the consequences if equipment is not commissioned as per
procedure or policy.
During construction the responsibilities and duties of the OPS Rep will include but not be
limited to the following:
Issue and arrange for the appropriate approvals for all permits.
Assist and lead a safe shut down of unit.
Be responsible to remove HC from the unit, steam out each section and install
isolation blinds to ensure complete isolation of systems to be worked on.
Follow safe work practices as per Chevron policies.
Assist in daily unit preparation/ isolation during the T&I period.
Carry out equipment internal and external checks prior to box-up, and on
completion of box-up.
Provide guidance to contract staff regarding work to be carried out.
Witness and assist instrumentation group with control valve stroking and loop
checks.
Identify and hang tags correctly for all new tie-ins, as per approved tagging
procedure.
Be responsible to identify every tie-in point is safe to progress cutting/
welding prior to commencement of hot work.
Be responsible to carry out an as-build P&ID check of the unit prior to start-
up.
Be responsible to complete pre-start-up checks of each and every system
confirmation of line up and gasketing.
Be responsible to complete a leak test of entire unit as per procedure.
Take total accountability for correct line-ups and correct commissioning of
equipment during start-up period.
Accept full responsibility for the safe operation of the unit.
Work Instruction and Supervision
The OPS Rep/supervisor will report to the Visbreaker Project Managerduring the term of
the assignment. He will act as your sole supervisor during this period.
As OPS Rep, you will fulfil a semi supervisory role and will be required to attend all
Visbreaker meetings where your presence will add value. You will work closely with the
Visbreaker Construction Team to share the supervisory roles and responsibilities.
The OPS Rep will be expected to chair meetings and conduct training sessions without
additional supervision. If you need any training, coaching or assistance in this regard, it
will be provided to you.
