Personal Profile
An extremely patient, personable, assertive, knowledgeable worker with very
strong ICT skills and a firm knowledge of child protection issues in schools along
with an awareness of the latest trends in education. With a degree in law
(approved by UK Naric) and a degree in the arts (also approved by UK Naric), I
have a solid background from which to engage in multidisciplinary teaching. With
over 20 years of teaching experience in law and making a difference to all types
of students, I can adapt to different environments and working cultures as well as
work with children and adults of varying abilities and tackle other subjects such
as Key Stage 3 and 4 History as well as Key Stage 3 R.E and GCSE English. My
skills allow me to handle situations with parents and challenging children.I have
also done cover supervisor work and learning mentor work with challenging
students, EBD, ASD,ADHD and other learning disability situations.
Skills
Interpersonal Skills
With over ten years of experience in English schools and a law firm, I have
developed and honed interpersonal skills which are appropriate in a multiethnic,
multi cultural and multi religious organisations. Such inter personal skills include
an awareness of different religious world views, tolerance for diverse views on
education and the ability to support those colleagues who may need moral and
other types of support.
Planning Skills
Having been exposed to the procedures and the requirements of several schools
and institutions, I have developed skills in short term, medium term and long term
planning such as Sir John Cass Sixth Form where I revamped resources,
designed detailed lesson plans and updated the reading material. My training as
a lawyer helps me to plan schedules and documents along with coping with
medium and long term issues. Each school has it’s own planning regimen and I
have had to adapt.
Teaching Skills
I have been teaching law since 1996 and I have developed the skills needed to
be an effective teacher which include planning, monitoring progress, designing
schemes of work, writing assessments, marking and doing administrative tasks.
2. In addition I have had to liaise with parents and involve parents in the learning
process. These skills have made a difference to students with SEN issues, high
attainers and middle attainers.
Verbal and Written Communication Skills
I have written articles on chess online, drafted legal documents and letters and I
have over 16 years of experience in using various types of software. My ability at
public speaking was honed as a lecturer at the University of the West Indies
where I lectured on Business Law and Constitutional Law between 1999 and
2003. I also have had to write reports for Claire’s Court School and used Bloom’s
Taxonomy. I have a lot of experience with power points and emails to students
about important topics.
Management Skills
Having run a law department at Barnhill Community High and Cecil Jones
College as well as Claire’s Court School ,Windsor Girl’s School,Sir John Cass
Redcoat Sixth Form College and Acland Burghley School I am aware of the
administrative demands that are inherent in managing the daily operations of a
department. My legal training encompassed management training and I have
been exposed to the needs for resource development, student engagement,
creation of VLEs and additionally an assessment cycle.
