 Book Industry Study Group (BISG) develops / maintains the EPUB 3 Support Grid

 IDPF가 EPUB 3.0 표준 스펙을 발표한 지(2011년 10월) 거의 2년이 다 돼 가고
있으나, 아직도 국내외 전자책 시장에서 EPUB 3.0 뷰어 개발에 다양한 문제(?)가
발생하고 있으며, 출판사들의 EPUB 3.0 콘텐츠 제작도 활성화되지 못하고 있다.
이에 따라 IDPF는 ‘Readium’ 프로젝트를 통해 EPUB 3.0 표준 확산과 함께 Reading
System(Readium) SDK 공개를 통해 뷰어 개발을 지원하고 있으나, 프로젝트에
참여한 국내 업체나 단체는 한 곳도 없는 실정이다. 빠른 시일 내에 국내에서도
출판사(단체), 유통사, 솔루션 업체들이 컨소시엄을 구성하여 참여해야 한다.

메타데이터 표준화의 필요성
 현재 국내 출판물의 메타데이터 표준화가 정립되지 않아 모든 유통업체가 중복적
으로 서지정보 DB를 구축하고 있으며, 실제 유통에 필요한 출판물 정보가 부족하
다. 특히, 책의 발견가능성(Discoverability)과 검색 최적화를 위해 메타데이터표준
화가 필수적이다.

국내에는 아직 출판물에 대한 문서 표준이 없는 것이 현실이다. 디지털시대에
접어들면서 출판사는 단순히 종이책 출판뿐만 아니라 전자책(EPUB), 웹콘텐츠 등
원소스 파일로 다양한 포맷과 디자인으로 출판물을 생산할 수 있어야 한다.
