I. REFLECTION AND SELF – EVALUATION
MDD Standard 6
• The teacher candidate identifies the main things learned in this practicum and ways
in which this learning has informed their professional development needs, reflecting on
the meaning, values, and purposes that will orient his or her professional life.
4.1 Reflect on the main things you have learned about teaching and how these relate
to your understanding of the profession and the values that guide your work.
I think that one of the most important aspects that I have learned about teaching is
that you need to know your students interests and try to find different ways in order to
students can learn easily. Usually teaching English is difficult for teachers for many
reasons ; however, teachers need to adequate their teaching technics to get students
more engaged in the class. A good way could be speak more with your students in
order to know them better and use the best ways to motivate them. Many students
have the wrong vision that English is too difficult even to try learning it and they give
up even before start learning. Besides, I have seen some teachers which, apparently,
do not put great efforts trying to change that vision. As a student teacher, I don’t think
so. Every person can learn English and the teacher must find the best ways to
motivate students learning.
4.2 Describe one or two areas of professional growth (e.g. instructional strategies,
content knowledge).
I think that one of the aspects which I have improved since I started teaching
some years ago; it is the management of time. I used to think that I could make
many activities with my students during my lessons. However, often the time was
not enough and that happened for many reasons: the level of activities were not
appropriated for them, several minutes were wasted trying to keep the order in
the class, instructions were not clear enough, etc. Nowadays, I try to put more
efforts at the moment of manage the time. With the experience which I have
acquired during these years, I have had less problems of this type with my
students.
