Production Process Evaluation
Research
• Strengths:
– I found that there are a lot more styles of magazine than I first thought, which made me
think about my final product and how it would bring a new outlook on what’s already on
the market
– I got to get stuck in the action of an editor, which made me think more about how I write
each article and how its worded, so that it is up to a high standard.
• Weaknesses:
– I found that when researching the different articles I lost focus and it made it harder to
write about what I have chosen to write about.
– I also found that when I started to look for the photos I had in the double-page spread
that I found good photo but they had watermarks on them which would make them not
my own content.
Planning
• Strengths:
– I made sure to try develop my ideas around the gaming magazine so that it seemed
more viable for sales. I did this by making sure that each point I put a reason behind
everything I brought up.
– When creating other ideas I made sure to full develop each idea so that I didn’t just focus
on one type of magazine so that I had options.
• Weaknesses:
– I needed to make sure that when planning that I didn’t add any false information about
each idea, so that I had a balanced set of options that were all correct in what I stated.
– I needed to put more effort into planning as when I did plan I could have certainly put in
more so that I could have added even more content to my work.
Time Management
• I don’t think I managed my time well as I started by rushing a lot to get as
far ahead as possible, then towards then end grinded to a halt.
• I didn’t finish the project on time because of issues.
• If I had more time I could have made the contents even better and more
detailed for a better reader experience.
• If I had more time in general to complete my work I would have collect the
images myself so that I wouldn’t have to credit others for the images, also
I would have made sure that the content I added was magazine friendly
with explicit warning when necessary.
• I also would have made the content more visually appealing as it does look
very blank with the all black background on the double-page spread
because if I had made it more reader friendly it could make more sales
and a bigger fan base.
Technical Qualities
Strengths Weaknesses
• On both magazines the
background covers part
of the master head
because of its
recognition to readers.
• The ‘buzz’ words on the
bottom magazine are
vibrant and easily visible
which make it more
reader friendly
• The bar code on the top
magazine is visible which
makes it easier for the
reader to make an
informed decision on
whether to purchase the
magazine or not.
• The ‘buzz’ word is hard to
read and is completely out
of place compared to the
secondary articles.
• The barcode on the
bottom magazine is
hidden on the back which
makes the reader have to
look further to find the
price which is time
consuming for the reader
which might deter them
from reading.
• The text/font on the top
magazine is barely visible
to the reader from a
distance which won't
catch anyone's eyes to buy
a copy.
Aesthetic Qualities
I think that my work look good and to a
professional standard as the front cover
matches criteria of the most popular
gaming magazines out there.
I think that the front cover was very
generic because most gaming magazines
have the background character’s head
cover part of the master head. But with
the double page spread I think that it
was creative because you usually don’t
see a image span over two pages with a
fold area, which this could also be
considered as unique within the world of
magazines.
I would improve the front page the most
because it was very rushed and it should
have taken more time and looked even
better as the current double page spread
is very generic within modern magazines.
Peer
Feedback
Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– The font cover is very professional looking. You can tell exactly what
audience the magazine is catering too based off the front cover alone.
– The colours are very camo, which appeals to the shooter games.
– The subheadings are very big and state clearly what is inside the
magazine, which will let audiences know what there reading.
– There is a lot of detail in the double spread, and the content is very good
and well thought out. The author clearly knows what he’s talking about.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– There is a little bit of blank space that could be filled with pictures or
maybe if you made the picture more compact you could add more.
Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
• The cover visual will appeal to the target audience as it is a
graphic that a gaming audience could identify with.
• I like the sections of the double page spread; strong visuals
and chunks of text help the reader be drawn in. The logos
in the centre of the spread look good and I like the fact box.
I like the text down the side of the pages which will help
with branding recognition.
• What improvements could have been made to the
product? The name of the magazine is not immediately
clear from the other text, perhaps a stronger brand logo
could be developed.
Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– I like the font you have chosen as it stands out.
• I liked the ‘Did you know’ bit to it making it
more interesting when reading.
• ’What improvements could have been made
to the product?
– I feel like the writing on the front cover one is
quite hard to read from specially the red one.
Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
– I agree that I could have filled the blank spaces
with extra content.
– I also agree that they font for the front cover
wasn’t easily readable until closer glance.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
– I don’t think that I need to make a stronger brand
logo as the logo is the name ‘Unite’.
Peer Feedback Summary
I think that one change I would make is the font on
the front cover as the colours conflicted with the
background which made it harder to read and the
‘buzz’ word was near impossible to read.
I also think that I could have added more content as
although there was a lot of content there was easily
room for more content to be added, which could
make it excel even more.
