order to know why something happens!
What type of pulp is needed for each PM?

            Smoothness? High tensile?

Porosity? Opacity? High tear?

These targets can be achieved if one knows
how to control the principal components
     (factors) contributing to these properties!

         Correct targeting (quality and cost)

                                 Monetary Tools

We have to offer a unique business proposal that brings value through combination of
these four knowledge areas

Innovation is combining “old things” in a new way 10
What is needed and not?
• Easy to use tool that is accurate

• Possibility to “play around” with
    alternative solutions

• Easy optimization alternatives

• Flexible updates by the supplier

• Not just another software

• Not complicated models that will need
    special dedication to understand

• Not too expensive and extensive, but
    useful

                                              11
SoftaCell
• SoftaCell is a program developed into paper, board and tissue makers,
but also to the brand owners to optimize their products to achieve the
best quality with the most economical and sustainable way.
• The program is built to use multivariable optimization to get the best
results in given quality frames. You can optimize either material
quantity, material and fixed costs, energy demand, softness potential,
the use of certified materials or other variable cost and quality
characters of your product. SoftaCell is always tailored to each
customer based on your business demands and features needed.
• Using SoftaCell you will save time and money when you can simulate
the effect of different raw material combinations in minutes without
time and money consuming in situ test trials. That is why you also
have all your raw materials and products in it.
• SoftaCell has proven its benefits also in sales and marketing, when
you can show the benefits of using your product clearly with figures
and quality attributes to your customers.

                                                                    12
Input of end quality parameters
                 • It’s easy to enter all the needed quality
parameters into the software for the end use
                     requirements

                 • Depending on the existing data you can use the
laboratory data mixtures as targets and if there
is a quality data available also paper machine
                     specific modelling is possible

                 • The key is to compare current situation with the
changes, not to find “absolute truth”

                 • Optimization tools help to find the most cost
effective way to reach the target quality in
primary properties in limits of other quality
                     properties
                 • It is easy to concentrate in one or two quality
factors, but with SoftaCell the optimization can
be done with multiple quality factors without a
fear of loosing performance in the unwanted
                     places

                                                              13

The Quality Comparisons

All quality parameters can be seen for the
both mixtures in Table or Picture.

  • 2. The Game Play Price -$5/ton -$5/ton Volume • As new capacity is created globally, the cost curve flattens • The flexibility to optimize raw materials, operations and quality has a greater significance on where you stand on the flattened curve 2
  • 3. What do you need to success in global markets? • Product quality • Optimization to achieve ’good enough’ products • Softness, brightness, load demands… • Sustainability • Certified wood/other materials • Weight, material usage • Recycled materials • Energy use • Product price • Best price all the time when raw material and production cost varies. 3
  • 4. Quality Window vs. Cost Window The optimized quality vs. cost ratio changes all the time! Performance range that customers can utilize or absorb Time 4

  • 9. What type of pulp is needed for each PM? Smoothness? High tensile? Porosity? Opacity? High tear? These targets can be achieved if one knows how to control the principal components (factors) contributing to these properties! Correct targeting (quality and cost) Process optimization Raw material control 9
  • 10. GloCell Innovation Fiber Knowledge Modeling Software Monetary Tools We have to offer a unique business proposal that brings value through combination of these four knowledge areas Innovation is combining “old things” in a new way 10
  • 11. What is needed and not? • Easy to use tool that is accurate • Possibility to “play around” with alternative solutions • Easy optimization alternatives • Flexible updates by the supplier • Not just another software • Not complicated models that will need special dedication to understand • Not too expensive and extensive, but useful 11
  • 12. SoftaCell • SoftaCell is a program developed into paper, board and tissue makers, but also to the brand owners to optimize their products to achieve the best quality with the most economical and sustainable way. • The program is built to use multivariable optimization to get the best results in given quality frames. You can optimize either material quantity, material and fixed costs, energy demand, softness potential, the use of certified materials or other variable cost and quality characters of your product. SoftaCell is always tailored to each customer based on your business demands and features needed. • Using SoftaCell you will save time and money when you can simulate the effect of different raw material combinations in minutes without time and money consuming in situ test trials. That is why you also have all your raw materials and products in it. • SoftaCell has proven its benefits also in sales and marketing, when you can show the benefits of using your product clearly with figures and quality attributes to your customers. 12
  • 13. Input of end quality parameters • It’s easy to enter all the needed quality parameters into the software for the end use requirements • Depending on the existing data you can use the laboratory data mixtures as targets and if there is a quality data available also paper machine specific modelling is possible • The key is to compare current situation with the changes, not to find “absolute truth” • Optimization tools help to find the most cost effective way to reach the target quality in primary properties in limits of other quality properties • It is easy to concentrate in one or two quality factors, but with SoftaCell the optimization can be done with multiple quality factors without a fear of loosing performance in the unwanted places 13
  • 14. Creating the Furnish Mixture Then you go to the real thing: Furnish mix optimization You usually have different types of machines and/or grades in the database 14
  • 15. Fillers and Chemicals Included Multivariable Optimization Button! Here as an example of comparison between PCC and Kaolin. All other fiber mixes are the same! 15
  • 16. The Quality Comparisons All quality parameters can be seen for the both mixtures in Table or Picture. For optimization Min and Max accepted values can be entered 16
  • 17. Machine Parameters and Prices of Raw Material can be Entered Flexibly 17
  • 18. The Quality and Cost Optimization In this case MIX #2 shows a significant 9,69 € / ton savings. The quality figures can also be optimized separately. 18
  • 19. Board Optimization • The board structure is created from furnish mixes • In this case a 3-layer structure in presented • Easy comparison • Grammages included 19
  • 20. SoftaCellTM Quality vs. Cost optimization from Paper to Board! Raw material All needed mix quality parameters Cost optimization 20
  • 21. Customer service • Training • We offer always training session to our new customers and full manual to help new users. • User support • If any problems occurs, our customer service will answer to your questions and can help users online around the world. • Easy updates • SoftaCell update service will make possible online updates for all the users simultaneously every time when new data or software features are available • Security • All customer information is kept in highly secured server. • Only registered users have access into server location and credentials to use the program or data. • Unregistered use is made impossible • User registry control is always tailored with customer. 21
