Chairwoman of the Board of
The Fair Trade Federation
I present myself in representation of a group of local craftswomen from the villages of Tecalpulco and Taxco El Viejo, jewelry-makers legally organized as
a cooperative and registered with the name ARTCAMP SC de RL. My identification and professional credentials are readily available to you.
It is only common commercial practice that a commercial buyer of goods originating in Taxco provide an ordinary commercial balance accounting
when the suppliers request this and especially in the case where the relationship is suddenly terminated by the buyer, there should be a closing of accounts
where the credits of both parties are determined. If there are differences, then ordinarily this should be a matter for discussion and possibly for negotiation.
However to unilaterally curtail communications and then inform the artisans that the business has been sold to a third party and that this sale has erased all
previous unresolved differences is unusual to say the least and these artisans have objected to their claims being overlooked in this way have made valid
objections that, to my understanding, have been pointedly ignored. Perhaps there is a misunderstanding that could be resolved with an open discussion,
and comparison of both party’s credit and debit claims?
You may be assured that I am professional person and an experienced silversmith, both in the technical sense of creating and making .925 silver
jewelry, yet also in the ordinary uses and customs and ordinary commercial practice in Taxco over many years. I am interested to learn your own point of
view or version of why the Artcamp cooperative was terminated with prejudice by Global Crafts.
I am interested to learn what I don’t know about this case so I can make an informed decision about what would be the most appropriate manner to
proceed. Thank you for your kind cooperation.
