Lewis W. Hine was a sociologist and photographer in the early 20th century. He documented immigrants arriving at Ellis Island, construction of the Empire State Building, tenement housing conditions, child labor, farming, soldiers, families, people at work, WPA projects, and children at play through his photographs.
