Decks are a great addition to any house that wants an outdoor area to resemble an indoor area. There are many materials you can use to build a deck and we explore the best ones in this blog.
2. Cedar
Cheaper than other options,
cedar wood is a beautiful
option when choosing your
decking. Made naturally, the
“heartwood” variety will last
longer that the very cheap
sapwood so make sure you
choose your variety carefully
and check for quality.
3. Redwood
A very expensive and very rare
variety of wood; if you want to
use this as decking you are going
to have to dig deep. Generally
redwood lasts between 15-20
years depending on the
environment and is a
hardwearing wood.
4. Vinyl
This is one of the least natural but
easiest options, because it is
made from PVC this vinyl decking
is incredibly low maintenance and
will require little to no upkeep.
Available in a variety of colours,
vinyl is a fantastic option for
families.
5. Composite
Another low maintenance
option, composite decking is
made from wood fibre and
polyethylene. Generally it will
come with a 25 year warranty, but
it will need to be cleaned every 3-
4 years.
6. IPE
By far the hardest decking to install
due its hard nature, IPE is extremely
durable. However, it does need to
be sealed every year to keep its
stunning appearance and to
prevent it from rotting. If it is
properly maintained then IPE can
last for over 25 years.
