- The earliest evidence is associated with burials. This is a period of seafaring, the Viking civilization who conquers many. Burials were often done in ships – filled with valuable items and sometimes set off to sea.
- Usually associated with the burials of a great warrior – he would be buried with helmets, shields, and in a burial costume. Due to the climate – much of the natural items have decayed.
- Use of colored glass that is set into prestamped metal work that has been guilded and fired to heighten the powered glass set into the shells.
