This document discusses leveraging existing digital collections and technologies for the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA). It notes that Google has scanned about 130 million books, the Smithsonian has digitized over 137 million objects, and the National Archives has billions of digitized documents. It encourages local libraries and museums to augment large-scale digitization efforts by doing their own "boutique" and "cottage" scanning. Finally, it provides contact information for the speaker and references images from the Library of Congress related to standing on the shoulders of giants and joining together.
