6. IMPORTANT FEATURES: VIRTUALIZATION
Barracuda Backup utilizes the vSphere Data Recovery API to backup and
restore the VMware Host configuration as well as VMware guests.
Not in free version. Supported by the “lowest” vSphere version, Essentials.
After initial backup of VM guest, only changed are backed up (CBT).
Restore either the complete VM image, or files inside the VM image (granular
restore).
Liveboot
If primary storage platform of VMWare platform is down, BCD appliance can
function as a storage platform.
Temporary solution until primary storage is up again.
7. IMPORTANT FEATURES: BARE METAL RESTORE
Allows restoration of a complete Microsoft Windows system, including data,
settings, applications, and operating system, onto a new computer on which
nothing is installed.
Hardware does not have to be 100% the same.
Bare Metal Live CD can be downloaded from the BCD appliance.
Hardware boots with this CD, communicates with BCD appliance for restore.
Asks for NIC driver during boot.
8. IMPORTANT FEATURES: EFFICIENT STORAGE
Backup agent deduplicates data prior to sending it to the BCD appliance.
BCD dedupes between different backup sources, and compresses data.
Deduplication and compression reduce requires storage space up to 50 times.
