3. Question #1:

F
G
• In the Office
• At Home & the Office
• At a Remote User’s office
• On the Web
• On a Tablet
• On your Phone
• All of the Above
4. Question #2:
What data would you like to see?
A
B
C
D
E
F
G
H
• Contacts
• Calendar & To-Do’s
• Notes & Histories
• Opportunities
• Groups
• Companies
• Data other than Act!
• All of the Above
6. SCENARIO #1
ALL USERS IN THE
SAME OFFICE
Stand Alone – Act! Pro
Peer to Peer sharing – Pro or Premium
Please use a stand alone computer!!
Server/Client – Pro or Premium
Network Synch – user brings laptop into the office;
can access data on the laptop and sync upon return
7. Scenario #2
Single User wants to access his data
from home, his tablet,
or when he travels
For 1 user I recommend GoToMyPC or Logmein
• Pro: Low cost (less than $100/year, Logmein is
free)
• Pro: Easy setup
• Pro: You have access to all your data, not just Act!
• Con: Requires that the computer remain on and
unused
• Con: Connectivity can be slow
8. Scenario #3
DIY Remote Solutions if you have
users working in other locations
Premium: Configure a web server (static IP address, IIS,
asp.net, and IT support) and use Act! for web
Use a VPN and setup a synchronization through the VPN
Open port 65100 on your router and setup synch via the
Internet (outside the firewall)
Pro or Premium: Configure your server with Remote
Desktop or Citrix – you’ll need Windows licenses for
each remote user that is accessing (and an IT guy)
This will allow you to share all data, not just Act!
9. SHOULD I USE PRO OR
PREMIUM WHEN
SYNCHING??
• Act! Pro requires that the main database
remain open at all times if remote users
want to synch to it
• Act! Premium installs a service that listens
for an incoming synch; therefore, you do not
need to leave Act! open on the server
10. USING
ACT! FOR WEB
• Act! Premium includes the tools needed for
web access but you must have a web server
• You’ll also be able to see Act! through a
browser
• You’ll be able to access via your tablet’s
browser
• You have Apps (mini-Act!) for your phone
or tablet
11. SCENARIO 4:
I HAVE A TABLET

12. WARNING!
A Phone is Not a Laptop
and
A Tablet is nothing more than
A BIG Phone
• You can not install actual software on a tablet
• If you synchronize too much information it eats
into the capacity of your device
13. Tablet Solutions with
Act! for Web Installed
Act! for web:
• View your entire database via a browser
• Requires a web server
• Real time data – no synching
Web Apps:
• Shows your entire database as a web app (mini-Act!)
• You see Groups, Companies, Opportunities
• Will be really slow if you have a lot of data
(especially histories)
• Requires a web server installation of Act!
• Real time data – no synching
14. Tablet: “Pay Per Synch”
Act! Connect: Requires a yearly subscription (69.95)
• Free with Business Care
• Gives you the same information as the web app
• Syncs wirelessly
• Designed for people who have Act! Pro or who can’t host their own web
server
Companion Link (79.95 or 129.95 one time purchase)
• Synchronizes your data to your device’s generic address book and
calendar automatically
• You can create a group of contacts to synch
• You can synch 8-12 customized fields beyond standard contact
information (address, phone, e-mail)
• You can designate a set number of notes and histories
• No Companies, Groups or Opportunities
• Can sync via Outlook, Google or a hard wire

16. PHONE SOLUTIONS

• Act! Connect (think Mini Act!) $69.95/year or free with Business Care
• Pro: Handled through someone else’s server (wireless)
• Pro: You can see Groups, Opportunities and Companies
• Pro/Con: Can be set for automatic synchronization
• Con: Only handles 3,000 contacts
• Web Apps (mini Act!) free if you have Act! for Web
• Pro: You can see Groups, Opportunities and Companies
• Pro: Real time data
• Con: Will not handle large databases (think histories)
17. WARNING!
I recommend
a one way synch
from Act! to Phone
• Your phone doesn’t contain all of your
Act! fields
• Thumb typing can be error-prone
• Personal contacts end up in your Act!
database
