Lakshmi Narayan Mittal alias Lakshmi Niwas Mittal was born
into a Marwari business family in Churu district of Rajasthan,
India.
His family moved from (Rajgarh) Sadulpur, Rajasthan to
Calcutta in West Bengal. He graduated from St. Xavier's
College, Calcutta with a Bachelor of Commerce degree
in business and accounting with first class.

Pramod Mittal and
Vinod Mittal.
His father, Mohan Lal Mittal, ran a steel
business, Nippon Denro Ispat. Until the 1990s,
the family's main assets in India were a

1. Mittal Group got into steel industry in 1976 when M L Mittal left country
because of India’s restrictive economic policies. He went to Indonesia to
set up ISPAT INDO.
2. Group started spreading its activities across the globe in 1989 when it
acquired an ailing plant in Trinidad and Tobago which was revived.
3. 1994 group underwent partition of business interest in the family. All the
foreign business were hived of into a separate group ISPAT International
under the control of L N Mittal while Indian operations remained with his
younger brothers P K Mittal and V K Mittal

World’s largest and most global steel company with shipment of 49.2
million tones and revenue of over $28.1 billion in 2005 and net income of
$3.4 billion
Benefiting from the steel recovery, the company reported a surge in net
profit to $4.6 billion in 2017 on revenue of $68.7 billion.
ArcelorMittal, along with Italian steel firm Marcegaglia, acquired Italy's loss
making steel group Ilva for $2.1 billion in June 2017.
ArcelorMittal has partnered with Japan's Nippon Steel to bid for billionaire
siblings Shashi and Ravi Ruia's debt-strapped Essar Steel.

In 2003, the Lakshmi Niwas Mittal and Usha Mittal Foundation and
the Government of Rajasthan partnered together to establish a university,
the LNM Institute of Information Technology (LNMIIT) in Jaipur as an
autonomous non-profit organization.
In 2009, the Foundation along with Bharativa Vidya Bhavan founded the
Usha Lakshmi Mittal Institute of Management in New Delhi.
SNDT Women's University renamed the Institute of Technology for Women
(ITW) as Usha Mittal Institute of Technology after a large donation from the
Lakshmi Niwas Mittal Foundation
16. Sports
After witnessing India win only one medal, bronze, in the 2000 Summer
Olympics, and one medal, silver, at the 2004 Summer Olympics, Mittal
decided to set up Mittal Champions Trust with $9 million to support ten
Indian athletes with world-beating potential.
In 2008, Mittal awarded Abhinav Bindra with Rs. 1.5 Crore (Rs. 15 million),
for getting India its first individual Olympic gold medal in shooting.
ArcelorMittal also provided steel for the construction of the ArcelorMittal
Orbit for the 2012 Summer Olympics.
For Comic Relief he matched the money raised (£1 million) on the celebrity
special BBC programme.

In 2008 the Mittals made a donation of £15 million to Great Ormond Street
Hospital in London, the largest private contribution the hospital had ever
received. The donation was used to help fund their new facility, the Mittal

Lakshmi Mittal (1950 - present) is the chairman and chief executive officer
of the world’s largest steel company, ArcelorMittal.

According to Forbes magazine, Mittal was worth $31.1bn in 2011.
In 2011 he was named the world’s most powerful Asian in the UK,
