Technology
Technology
• Technology is a body of knowledge devoted to creating tools,
processing actions and extracting of materials.
• The application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes,
especially in industry
• Machinery and equipment developed from the application of scientific
knowledge.
• The branch of knowledge dealing with engineering or applied
sciences.
• The scientific method and material used to achieve a commercial or
industrial objective.
History of Technology
• Stone Age - The development of simple tools from wood or shards of rock
and the discovery of fire, which provided a way to cook food and create
heat and light, were technological developments which allowed people to
accomplish tasks more easily and quickly.
• Bronze Age - The evolving ability of man to work with metal gave the ability
to form stronger tools, and the introduction of the wheel allowed people
greater ability to travel and communicate.
• Iron Age - The ability to work with harder metals than copper and tin, to
smelt iron, and to be able to remove iron from ore allowed for rapid
increases in weapons making, brought the development of tools that
benefit civilization and gave greater ability to perform tasks, such as
manufacturing and transportation.
• Computers and the Internet - The ability to perform basic thinking
processes much faster enables business, science and commerce to proceed
much more efficiently.
CHNOLOGY OF TEACH
The technology of teaching refers to instructional approaches that
are very systematically designed and applied in very precise ways. Such
approaches typically include the use of well-defined objectives, precise
instructional procedures based upon the tasks that students are required to
learn, small units of instruction that are carefully sequenced, a high degree
of teacher activity, high levels of student involvement, liberal use of
reinforcement, and careful monitoring of student performance.
Instructional procedures that embody many of these principles include
approaches such as direct instruction, applied behavior analysis, learning
strategies, and response prompting. Most often, machines and equipment
are not involved when implementing various technologies of teaching;
however, they can be, as will be seen later.
TRUCTIONAL TECHNOLO
Instructional technology is a systematic way of designing, carrying out, and
evaluating the total process of learning and teaching in terms of specific objectives,
based on research in human learning and communication, and employing a
combination of human and nonhuman resources to bring about more effective
instruction.
Typical applications of instructional technology may use conventional media
such as videotapes, computer assisted instruction, or more complex systems, such as
hypermedia programs in which computers are used to control the display of audio and visual
images stored on videodisc (Blackhurst & Morse, 1996), CD-ROM and digital video discs. The
use of telecommunication systems, particularly the Internet (Williams, 1995) and its World
Wide Web component (Williams, 1996), have great promise for use in classrooms and for
distance education. Computer software systems are now available that can be used to
manage the delivery of instruction via the Web. Such systems have been used successfully
to deliver instruction to undergraduate and graduate students on topics related to special
education (Blackhurst, Hales, & Lahm, 1997).
It is important to note the various components of the above definition and to realize
that technology is actually a tool for the delivery of instruction.
SSISTIVE TECHNOLOG
Assistive technology employs the use of various types of services and
devices designed to help people with disabilities function within the
environment. Assistive technologies include mechanical, electronic, and
microprocessor-based equipment, non-mechanical and non-electronic aids,
specialized instructional materials, services, and strategies that people with
disabilities can use either to (a) assist them in learning, (b) make the
environment more accessible, (c) enable them to compete in the workplace,
(d) enhance their independence, or (e) otherwise improve their quality of
life. Assistive technologies may include commercially available or "home
made" devices that are specially designed to meet the idiosyncratic needs of
a particular individual (Black Hurst & Lahm, 2000). Examples include
eyeglasses, communication aids, alternative computer keyboards, adaptive
switches, and services such as those that might be provided by
speech/language pathologists.
EDICAL TECHNOLOG
The field of medicine continues to amaze us with the advances constantly being
made in medical technology. In addition to seemingly miraculous surgical procedures that
are technology-based, many individuals are dependent upon medical technology to stay
alive or otherwise enable people to function outside of hospitals and other medical
settings. It is not uncommon to see people in their home and community settings who use
medical technology. Some devices provide respiratory assistance through oxygen
supplementation and mechanical ventilation. Nutritive assistive devices can assist in tube
feeding or elimination through ostomies. Intravenous therapy can be provided through
medication infusion and kidney function can be assumed by kidney dialysis machines
(Batshaw & Perret, 1992). In addition to keeping people alive, technologies such as these
can enable people to fully participate in school, community, and work activities.
HNOLOGY PRODUCTIVITY TO
As the name implies, technology productivity tools are computer
software, hardware, and related systems that enable us to work more
effectively and efficiently. For example, computer software such as
database programs can be used to store and rapidly retrieve
information; word processing programs can be used to easily edit text
material; FAX machines can facilitate the transmission of written
documents over long distances; expert system computer programs can
aid in decision making, such as weather forecasting; and video
conferencing facilities can reduce the need for travel.
ORMATION TECHNOLOG
Information technologies provide access to knowledge and
resources on a wide range of topics. The Internet, and its World Wide
Web component, is the most prominent example of information
technology. The Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) is
another example. The ERIC system enables people to search and locate
much of the world's educational literature on a given topic. More
information about the ERIC System is available elsewhere on this Web
site.

Positive Effects of
Technology in the
Society
• Technology has mechanized agriculture : Modern agricultural technology
allows a small number of people to grow vast quantities of food in a short period
of time with less input which results into high yields and RIO ”return on
investment”. The use of technology in agriculture has also resulted into the
manufacturing of genetic crops which can grow fast and they can be resistant to
many pests and diseases. Also farmers have access to artificial fertilizers which
add value to the soil and boost the growth of their crops and enable them to
produce high quality yields.
• Technology has improved transportation: Technology has helped in advancing
all the four types of transportation and these include ; (1) road transport used
by automobiles ,(2) air transport which is used by airplanes , (3)water
transportation which is used by ships and speed boats and (4) space
transportation used to go to the moon. The most used of all these is Road
transportation, this one facilitates the movement of goods and people.
• Technology has improved communication: Communication is used for a
number of purposes. Both society and organizations depend on
communication to transfer information. People use technology to
communicate with each other. Electronic medias like radios, televisions,
internet , social medias have improved the way we exchange ideas which can
develop our societies. Communication technologies like Televisions, radios
and internet can be used to persuade, entertain and inform the society.
• Technology has improved education and learning process: Education is the
backbone of every economy. People need well and organized educational
infrastructures so that they can learn how to interpret information. Many
schools have started integrating educational technologies in their schools with
a great aim of improving the way students learn. Technologies like smart
whiteboards, computers, mobile phones, ipads , projectors and internet are
being used in classrooms to boost students moral to learn.
Negative Effects of
Technology in the
Society
• Resource Depletion: The more demand for new technologies and advancement of
current technologies, the more pressure we put on earth’s natural resources. Look at the
total number of mobile phones and computers being manufactured today, our
population is increasing every day and all these billion consumers demand either a
mobile phone or a computer in their homes or offices. This is good news to the
manufactures, like Apple or Samsung, the demand for their gadgets is high, but to
sustain this demand, they have to exploit Mother Nature for resources like aluminum,
once these resources are extracted from the earth plates, they will never return back
because it took them a billion years to mature. That means that at one time, we shall be
left with no natural resource which can be a problem to the future generation and
economy.
• Increased Population: – Technology has helped us live longer by improving health
facilities and aiding in the research for solutions for most health problems which affect
humans. This is good news for developed countries, but is bad news for developing
countries which have not been in position to access these health care benefits
brought by technology. This is different in developing countries, the rate at which
people produce is very high , the mortality rate is high , food is scarce and health
care is poor.
• Increased Pollution: Pollution affects the land we grow crops on , the water we
drink and the air we breath. As they work so hard to create the best technologies
for both society and business, they release harmful chemicals and gasses which
have polluted our environment and this has resulted into climate changes (global
warming). So the more technology we enjoy, the more we harm our environment.
Experts have tried to implement ways of reducing this impact by encouraging
factories to go green , to a small extent, this has been achieved through the
development of green technologies like; green cars , green computers, but a great
effort is still needed to reduce the pollution of the air and the earth.
Importance of Technology
• Technology gives us a convenient and easier life.
• Technology helps us to communicate with other people no matter where we
are and where they are.
• Technology allows us to go shopping through internet or websites.
• Technology helps us to find and gather answers, solutions and explanations to
our problems and questions. It helps us to finish our assignments and projects.
• Technology entertains us through social media and websites.
• Technology allows us to be active and aware to what is happening around us.
• Technology also helps us doing our daily tasks, responsibilities and activities.
• Technology also helps us to minimize our time doing lot of things.
Remember:
Technology is everywhere. We are so lucky to be benefited
by it. It makes our life easier and more convenient. It helps us to
provides our needs and wants. But we should know our limitations in
using technology we shouldn’t forget not to harm other while using it
and sometimes we should still use our traditional ways of works and
activities so that it won’t be forgotten and remain with us. It might be
that life is always based on how technology flows but people are the
creator of it and let us not manipulated by those growing technology.
We should put in our minds that we are doing something to help and to
be productive without harming and hurting others.
Technology is a gift of God. After the gift of life it is perhaps the
greatest of God's gifts. It is the mother of civilizations, of arts
and of sciences.
~Freeman Dyson

men do.
