These are big business system
players like SAP. Many of
these are now offering some
kind of carbon accounting
solution.

4. Here are big and small LCA companies that
traditionally specialized on the on-demand
LCA projects. They are now also offering
the automation tools. These folks have the
best LCA expertise. However, going from the
project work to a scalable tool is a big
step. From what I have seen these tools
often lack on the side of integration,
user-friendliness and scalability.

5. These are companies making their
money (I assume) with carbon
offsets. Their carbon accounting
platforms tend to be well-
automated; they are usually weaker
on the product footprint side. Also
these companies are usually not
very interested in customizing
their solutions.

6. The new kids on the block,
reshaping the market. These tool
are making use of the modern
tech and are designed to be
scaled. They are often capable
of gap filling, and flexible to
integrate your needs. The LCA
expertise is uneven.
Understanding of the industry
and business workflows is

7. I separated the SAC (Sustainable Apparel
Coalition) and its suite of tools into its
own bucket. It is only interesting for
textile and fashion industries, but there
is it a significant player. Besides the
well-known Higg index, the SAC Suite has
Facility Module where an outstanding amount
of primary data from factories is stored.
The data however is not compatible with the
product-level footprint accounting. I am
very curious to see which direction SAC
tools develop over the next years.
