WKU Mission Statement
Western Kentucky University (WKU) prepares
students of all backgrounds to be productive,
engaged, and socially responsible citizen-
leaders of a global society. The University
provides research, service and lifelong learning
opportunities for its students, faculty, and other
constituents. WKU enriches the quality of life for
those within its reach.
Transition to a Shared Mission
WKU’s mission as a student-centered
applied research university is to better our
region, the Commonwealth, our nation
and the world by inspiring innovation,
elevating communities and transforming
lives.
• Improve student learning
• Engage every stakeholder group in meaningful conversations
• Articulate persuasively our shared aspirations for WKU
• Create a practical and 10-year revisable roadmap for the future
• Use data to inform strategic choices
• Incorporate performance funding metrics
• Revise the budget model to ensure resources are deployed in
support of institutional priorities
