I, like you, have habits that some might consider a little strange. For example, when I’m
having my coffee in the mornings, I have a notepad close by because that’s when I get most of
my new ideas. This morning the idea popped into my head that I should write a testimonial to
BlogMutt. This testimonial is rather long only because I have a lot to say. The rule is – A
good writer writes until he/she is finished – then stops.
With the New Year only three weeks away, many will start making the standard “resolutions”.
As for me, I’m still trying to catch up on the ones I made 510 years ago. I would like to review
some changes in my life as a result of my almost making it through 2013.
Along with the tragedies, there have been many positive changes in my life. My very first great
granddaughter was born. My daughter learned that she is having a baby. I spent 11
wonderful days in the Florida Keys. I learned how to make fried chocolate pies and I became
acquainted with the BlogMutt writing community.
I wrote my first article here on January 10, 2013. I was actually scared to write it and more
scared to hit the “Submit” button. As I wrote more articles, the rejects and requests for edits
starting coming. I became totally angry to the point that some days I couldn’t manage to force
an article.
I began sending emails to Scott, with little thought that he had better things to do. Scott would
always respond in his usual polite and political manner. I somehow knew that in his mind he
was thinking – “Suck it up and move on.” I would even get angry over some of his responses.
One day it hit me like a bolt of lightning – these rejects and comments are my problem, not
Scott’s responsibility! My background in writing has always been of a technical nature. Writing
technical manuals for the Air Force or training materials for the insurance industry didn’t really
qualify me to write quality conversational articles about anything.
I began to research writing. I read blogs, articles, white papers, ebooks and anything else I
could find on what it takes to write good blog articles or web copy. Then I finally started
reading the posts in the forum. Hey, everyone was having the same problems. Even though I
honestly hate forums, the BlogMutt forum seemed to help clear my mind and allow me to
actually start writing in a more positive way. Each article became a little easier, the rejects
stopped coming, and the “$” started appearing next to my articles.
2. I have researched many freelance writing sites and I always try to find forums or comments by
the writers. There seems to be one common thread in most of them. If you look close enough
you will find comments like – “I can’t get paid.” or “The company still owes me money.” I know
that if I submit an invoice on Monday, my money will be in my PayPal account no later than
Tuesday. That’s just a fact.
I try not to pay much attention to the different “Levels” here. It seems to distract me from my
writing. I do want to reach “Level 8”, but I don’t stress about it. The fact that an online writing
service would even offer any monetary interest in the company to its writers is totally unique. If
you can find another writing service with this kind of incentive, please let me know.
BlogMutt has shown me my place in the writing community. It has taught me to be more
patient and to be more committed to writing quality material. It has taught me that not everyone
will appreciate all the articles I write, but so what? If everyone liked everything we write, there
would be no reason to become a better writer. If we don’t want to become better writers, there
really is no reason to write.
The only change I would make to BlogMutt would be to provide more educational material for
writers. I would like to see a “BlogMutt University”, a kind of obedience school, you know, for
mutts. Then we could all become graduates of “BlogMutt U”. I think it would add to building the
credibility of the BlogMutt brand if customers could see the efforts being made to continually
improve our quality of writing.
Thanks BlogMutt for helping me learn to become a better writer, for understanding my
mistakes, and for making me feel like I belong here.
I’m finished now!
