Battle For The Mind: The Role of Music
1. Music And The Battle For
The Mind
BIBLE STUDY BY MR WASONGA
YOUTH MUSIC SABBATH BETHLEHEM S.D.A
CHURCH, NOVEMBER 28TH, 2015
2. WHAT’S SATAN’S
AIM?
Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you
who dwell in them! Woe to the
inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For
the devil has come down to you, having
great wrath, because he knows that he
has a short time." Revelation 12:12
3. When the devil redoubles his efforts
The great controversy between Christ and Satan, that has been
carried forward for nearly six thousand years, is soon to close;
and the wicked one redoubles his efforts to defeat the work of
Christ in man's behalf and to fasten souls in his snares. To hold
the people in darkness and impenitence till the Saviour's
mediation is ended, and there is no longer a sacrifice for sin, is
the object which he seeks to accomplish.
{GC 518.1}
4. Blinding the mind
Whose minds the god of this age has blinded,
who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of
the glory of Christ, who is the image of God,
should shine on them.
2 Cor 4:4
5. Time is of the
essence
And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of
sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The
night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of
darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in
the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in
strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for
the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. Romans 13:11-14
6. Redeeming the
time
“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as
fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the
days are evil.”
Ephesians 5:5-6
7. Battle for the
mind
Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the
issues of life. Proverbs 4:23
You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on
You, Because he trusts in You. Isaiah 26:3
The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God;
God is in none of his thoughts. Psalms 10:4
8. Battle for the
mind
"The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately
wicked; Who can know it? I, the LORD, search the heart,
I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his
ways, According to the fruit of his doings.”
Jeremiah 17:9
9. Battle for the
mind
Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was
great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts
of his heart was only evil continually.
Genesis 6:5
Noah’s
time:
10. Battle for the
mind
And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in
the days of the Son of man.
Luke 17:26
End time:
11. Battle for the mind: GOD’S SOLUTION FOR
THE MIND
But this is the covenant that I will make with the
house of Israel after those days, says the LORD:
I will put My law in their minds, and write it on
their hearts; and I will be their God, and they
shall be My people.
Jeremiah 31:33
12. Battle for the mind: GOD’S SOLUTION FOR
THE MIND
Let the word of Christ dwell in you
richly in all wisdom, teaching and
admonishing one another in psalms
and hymns and spiritual songs, singing
with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Colosians 3:16
13. Battle for the mind: GOD’S SOLUTION FOR
THE MIND
For the word of God is living and powerful,
and sharper than any two-edged sword,
piercing even to the division of soul and
spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a
discerner of the thoughts and intents of the
heart.
Hebrews 4:12
14. Battle for the mind: GOD’S SOLUTION FOR
THE MIND
And do not be conformed to this world, but
be transformed by the renewing of your
mind, that you may prove what is that good
and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Romans 12:2

17. THE MUSIC
RELATION
Music was made to serve a
holy purpose, to lift the
thoughts to that which is pure,
noble, and elevating, and to
awaken in the soul devotion
and gratitude to God.
{MYP 293.1}
18. THE MUSIC
RELATION
What a contrast between the
ancient custom and the uses
to which music is now too
often devoted! How many
employ this gift to exalt self,
instead of using it to glorify
God!
19. THE MUSIC
RELATION
A love for music leads the unwary to unite with
worldlovers in pleasure gatherings where God has
forbidden His children to go. Thus that which is a great
blessing, when rightly used, becomes one of the most
successful agencies by which Satan allures the mind
from duty and from the contemplation of eternal
things.
20. AVOID READING,SEEING AND HEARING
Those who would not fall a prey to Satan's devices,
must guard well the avenues of the soul; they must
avoid reading, seeing, or hearing that which will
suggest impure thoughts. {AA 518.2}
23. MUSIC: A CHANNEL TO YOUTHFUL
MINDS
Music is the idol which many professed Sabbath-
keeping Christians worship. Satan has no
objection to music, if he can make that a channel
through which to gain access to the minds of the
youth. Anything will suit his purpose that will
divert the mind from God, and engage the time
which should be devoted to His service.
24. MUSIC CAN BE A BLESSING OR A
CURSE
He works through the means which will exert the
strongest influence to hold the largest numbers in
a pleasing infatuation, while they are paralyzed by
his power. When turned to good account, music is
a blessing, but it is often made one of Satan's
most attractive agencies to ensnare souls.
{MYP 295.1}
25. Set your mind on heavenly
things
Set your mind/affections
on things above, not on
things on the earth.
Colossians 3:2
26.
27. Line of distinction
The line of distinction between professed Christians and the
ungodly is now hardly distinguishable. Church members love what
the world loves and are ready to join with them, and Satan
determines to unite them in one body and thus strengthen his
cause by sweeping all into the ranks of spiritualism. Papists,
Protestants, and worldlings will alike accept the form of godliness
without the power, and they will see in this union a grand
movement or the conversion of the world and the ushering in of
the long-expected millennium. {GC 588.3}
38. THE EXAMPLE OF
CHRIST
Hereafter I will not talk
much with you: for the
prince of this world
cometh, and hath nothing
in me.
John 14:30
39. THE EXAMPLE OF
CHRIST
There was in Him nothing that
responded to Satan's sophistry. He
did not consent to sin. Not even by a
thought did He yield to temptation.
So it may be with us. Christ's
humanity was united with divinity; He
was fitted for the conflict by the
indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
{DA 123.3}
40. THE EXAMPLE OF
CHRIST
And He came to make us partakers of
the divine nature. So long as we are
united to Him by faith, sin has no
more dominion over us. God reaches
for the hand of faith in us to direct it
to lay fast hold upon the divinity of
Christ, that we may attain to
perfection of character.
