9. Information Our mountain lodge was once a part of a “Great Camp” compound at the turn of the century. In 2004-2005 the house underwent a complete restoration including exterior, electrical, plumbing, and winterization including heat. We have seven bedrooms, plus a study and a library both with pull-out sofas. There are six bathrooms throughout the house with ample hot water for large groups. The enormous eat-in kitchen features new appliances with two dishwashers and service for 24, making entertaining very easy. The great room is perfect for relaxing any time of day with lots of windows to enjoy the view. There are large comfortable sofas and chairs as well as a huge custom made dining room table. The porch is second to none, at almost 80 feet long and supported by cedar log beams it is a true Adirondack porch where the whole group can enjoy being outdoors rain or shine. Off of the kitchen is a screen porch perfect for smaller dining groups. Overall we have re-created the essence of the turn of the century lodge with all of the modern amenities, true “Rustic Luxury”. The property is situated near the end of a dead-end road that once served as an access for the estate. However it is now maintained by the town and is even paved! (This is a big deal in the Adirondacks!) It is a very private house, it is not visible from the road and enjoys a lovely view of the Raven Mountain Preserve from the porch. There are over 20 acres to enjoy with trails throughout offering some nice walks in the woods or cross country skiing and sledding. Our goal for the 2008 summer season is to spend the time improving the landscaping around the house, gardens, etc… so it will be ever improving!
10. We are perfectly located to enjoy all that the eastern Adirondacks has to offer. Elizabethtown is a short 15 min drive to beautiful Lake Champlain and the charming towns of Westport and Essex. In the other direction there is Keene Valley and some of the best hiking and mountain climbing in the east. 20 to 30 min away is Whiteface Mountain and the Olympic village of Lake Placid. This area is full of history, attractions, and restaurants. The house is only 7 miles from the Northway making it convenient to get to and easy driving in the winter months. I grew up spending my summers (and some winter weekends too) in the Adirondacks. It is a perfect place to be with family and friends while enjoying the peace and beauty of the outdoors. This project has been truly inspiring for me as the property really is in our minds the perfect Adirondack experience. We hope this information is helpful and perhaps you will decide to spend some time at our Adirondack paradise! Please bear in mind that our house, while grand in size and scope, is a century old, completely authentic “camp”. We have had clients in the past who I think were looking for a new house made to look old, this is not us. All of our amenities (kitchen/bath) are new but the house itself is all original. Our floors are not all perfectly level and some of the doors close hard. There are over 80 windows (2000 panes of original glass), we clean them in cycles so it is possible that they will not all be perfect. I can not guarantee that you will not see a cob web or evidence of a mouse (we do our absolute BEST to keep on top of these issues). Remember that Kilkenny is a beautiful and authentic HOME, not a fabricated hotel. If this sounds as appealing to you as it is to us, you will truly enjoy your experience, and we look forward to having you as our guests.
