Teaching and supervision have in all place, been a vital aspect of higher
education. One of the purpose of teaching and supervision is to help the
individual in becoming a useful member of society.
In the care setting just an education improves the attitude, skills and
abilities of employees to perform specific job better.

• Teaching:
• According to gage, “teaching is a form of interpersonal influence aimed
at changing the behavior potential of another person.”
• Supervision:
• It means observing the subordinates at work to see that they are
working according to policies of the organization and keeping the time
schedule, and to help them in solving their works problems.

Objective of teaching and supervision of team:
To help the staff to do skillfully and effectively to give maximum output
with minimum resources – cost effectiveness.
To help the staff develop the individual capacity.
To guide or assist in meeting predetermined work objectives or targets.
To promote effectiveness if the subordinates/staff ensuring that the
subordinates staff or supervise does what he/she suppose to do.
To motivate subordinates to maintain high morale.

• 1. Community Health Workers
• The Indian gov introduced a community health worker scheme across the
country in 1977 for “provision of health services at the door step of
villages.”
• However the names of the worker and scheme changes over time – from
community health worker in 1977 to community health volunteer in 1980
and village health guides in 1981.

• 1. Training Of Auxiliary Nurse Midwife [ANM]

• ANM is a village level female health worker in india who is the first
contact person between the community and health services.
• ANM are playing important and vital role in maternal child health and
family welfare services in the rural areas.
• Therefore it is essential that the proper training to be given to them so
that quality services will be provided to the rural population.
• They are posted in sub center, primary health center, rural family welfare
centers and other health centers in community.

• Training:
• The training duration of ANM course is 2 years with qualification is 12th
pass.
• Senior ANM with 5 years of experience is given 6 months promotional
training to become lady health visitor/health assistant (female).
• The lady health visitor are giving supportive supervision and technical
guidance to ANMs in sub centers.

• 2. Training Of Multi Purpose Health Workers

• This is approved during 6th five year plan and by 1984. it become 100% centrally sponsored scheme.
• Training duration 1 year.
• They posted at sub center along with an ANM/health worker.
• Functions of MPHW are mainly in the areas of national health programs like
Malaria
Leprosy
Tuberculosis
Universal immunization program
Diarrhea control program in family welfare services.

• 3. Training Of Village Health Guide

• The village health guides are mostly women.
• This scheme was started on 2nd oct 1977.
• They are chosen by the community in which they work.
• The village health guide must be a permanent resident of the local community.
• Training is conducted every month.
• After selection they undergo training in nearest PHC for 200 hours in 3 months.
• Each village health guide covers 1000 rural population.

• Under the ICDS (integrated child development scheme) there is an anganwadi
for a population of 1000. there are about 100 such workers in ICDS project.
• Training in various aspect of health, nutrition and child development for 4
months.
• She is a part time worker and get Rs. 200-250 per month for the services
rendered, which include health check up, immunization, supplementary
nutrition, health education, non formal pre-school education and referral
services.
• The beneficiaries are especially nursing mother, other women 15-45 years and
children below the age of 6 years.

• 5. Training Of Accredited Social Health Activits [ASHA]

• ASHA training comes under the national rural health mission.
• ASHA must be a woman resident of village. Married/divorced preferably in the
age group of 25-45 years.
• She should be literate woman qualified up to 10th standers.
• ASHA should be chosen through community groups, self-help groups, village
health committee and the gram sabha.
• She will counsel women on birth preparedness, importance of safe delivery,
breast feeding, complementary feeding, immunization, contraception and
prevention of common infectious disease like RTI and STD.

2. Hospital Health Workers
Doctors: doctors are the key members of the health care team. They have year
of education and training. They may be primary doctors or specialist.
• Primary Doctors: primary doctors may be family practitioners, and internal
medicine. The primary doctors treat day to day illnesses and provide preventive
care such as minor injuries, viral infections, immunization and check ups.
• Specialist: specialist diagnose and treat conditions that require a special area of
knowledge.
examples of specialist includes: obstetrics and gynecologist, dermatologist,
urologist, cardiologist etc.

Nurses: nurses closely with patients. A nurses job duties depend on their
education, area of specialist and work setting.
Pharmacists: pharmacists give patients medicines that are prescribed, or
recommended, by a doctor.
Technicians: technician have a technical role in diagnosing or treating disease.
• They work in a various settings Like:
- Laboratory technician
- Radiology technician

Therapists: therapists and rehabilitation specialist help people recover
from physical changes caused by a medical condition, chronic disease or
injury.
• Types of rehabilitation specialist include:
- Physical therapist
- Occupational therapist
