SPEED-5G Workshop
Advanced Spectrum Management in 5G+ Networks
London, 7th March 2018
2. Two Main Demonstrations
35
Demonstration 1
Combination of centralised and decentralized radio resource management with a
novel MAC protocol for higher capacity in small cells
Demonstration 2
Exploitation of heterogeneous spectrum resources through tight integration of
multiple RATs at MAC layer
3. Demonstration 1
Key Points
4 Addressing the problem of spectrum and radio
resource management in a 5G context
4 Environments with many small cells (up to the order
of hundreds)
4 Scalability becomes an issue
36
A distributed approach is proposed

12. Conclusions
4 Two main demonstrations
➨ One focusing on HRRM (cRRM/dRRM) benefits
● The objective of this demonstration is to highlight how the SPEED-5G outcomes can be
implemented to optimize the usage of spectrum resources and deliver the best QoS in dense
heterogeneous networks by exploiting distributed radio resource management.
➨ One focusing on tight integration of multiple RATs at MAC layer
● The objective of this demonstration is to highlight project innovations related to inter-RAT,
e.g. LTE and WiFi, resource aggregation and traffic steering/offload, based on a MAC-split
solution.
