The document discusses the various hardware and software technologies used to construct a media product. It describes learning to use an iMac computer, Nikon D3400 camera, Apple keyboard and mouse, USB stick, SD card, soft boxes, and other equipment. Several software programs were also used including Adobe Photoshop and InDesign to edit photos and design pages. WordPress was used to create a blog, and SlideShare to upload PowerPoint slides. While familiar with some technologies, the document emphasizes learning new skills through using each tool for this specific media project.
1. AS Media Studies
Evaluation
6/ What have you learnt about technologies from the
process of constructing this media product?
2. Throughout the construction of my media product I have
learnt a range of new skills from hardware and software use.
Hardware is the equipment used, things like the camera
used and computers etc, practical things you use by touch.
Software is the different websites used, it is computer data
and refers to the different sites/programs used in the making
of my media product.
Below you can see many software’s used such as
powerpoint and indesign.
3. Computer: I used an Apple Imac computer, the apple processor is 2GHz which
creates speed and it has two processors. These computers use Random Access
Memory (RAM) which benefits the user as it allows the computer to run its
operations without seeing a decline in performance. This means I could have
different software’s up and made it a little easier for me to see what I was doing
and constrict my media product well. I have never used an Imac before and at first I
was a little tricky to use it as it was even hard to use basic functions, for example
right clicking the mouse does not work. However I learnt how to use the computer
quickly.
Camera: I used the Nikon D3400 DSLR camera with 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 VR Zoom
Lens, I have never used this camera before and had to get used to holding it
properly, it has compact DSLR which captures high quality images and ensured my
photographs came out in great quality. It also offers effects that are already on the
camera screen. I learnt how to get my model into effective positions where the
camera captured them well with the lighting hitting them. The focusing with the
camera was very useful and stabalizing.
4. Apple keyboard and
mouse
At the beginning of the production of my media product, getting use to the
keyboard and mouse was a little challenging. One example is that with the
mouse instead of using the right click you have to scroll up to the edit tool
bar to click copy or paste.
However I learn new skills with the keyboard which were very useful while
making my media product. I learn how to take specific screenshots of a
part of my screen using SHIFT/CMD/4 and how to take a screenshot of
my whole computer screen using SHIFT/CMD/3.
5. USB stick: I used a USB stick to transfer the photos
from off of my phone and laptop onto the computer.
SD Card: I also used an SD card to transfer the photos
from my camera to my laptop, I used an SD card
reader
I already knew how to use these so no new skills were
learnt in the process of doing this.
6. Soft boxes- used to reflect the light onto the model for a clearer
image. I have never used these before but they were easy to use
while moving hem around to find the best place for them to be.
Backdrop was used in order to have a white background behind
the model so it was easy to edit in a darker background and to add
any effects used.
Hemisphere 300- strobe flash, set to go off with built in light
sensors.
7. Software
I had a little trouble navigating my way around the computer as I
had never used it before, however I used the search option to find
different programs when I needed them.
MAC OS X El Captain (operating system) V.10.11.6
8. ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS5 VERSION 12
I have used photoshop before but with the process of this media
product I used it in more detail and with a lot more attention to all
of the different functions they offer.
I have experience with using these tools before, however I
brushed up on my ability to use certain ones for example the
magnetic lasso tool, which I used to cut out my image and use
it in my media product. By clicking layer via copy, it then gave
me the option to drag the part of the image I cut out and drag it
into my main page.
9. After inserting my images onto the main page, I dragged certain
layers above or below over layers so certain layers were on top of
other ones, this made it so for example the main image of the
model is not covered by the magazines name but is obstructing a
part of the name.
I also used different effects on the image of the model and the
name of the model, certain effects are on different pieces of text
for example a gradient effect on the name of the magazine ‘Static’
10. ADOBE INDESIGN CS3 VERSION 8
I have never used InDesign before and I was able to develop new skills
through using it while creating my article. It is a lot easier to manage main
bodies of text using InDesign than it is if I was to use photoshop.
I used margin lines to help keep my article together well and not look
clustered with too much text and a good parting between the main picture
and the text.
11. This is the select tool which is
used to select and move
objects
This is the text tool where I could
write up the article, I could then
change the font used, size and
colour.
I used this to create a box where I could then drag
in an image to the page, this made it easy to put
the picture on top of the picture in my article.
12. Wordpress.com
A main part of software used was wordpress.com, I have never
made a blog before so I learnt new skills through the process of
creating and maintaining it. I learnt how to create the blog, add
pages to the blog and change the layout and add people to my
blog etc… It is an effective way of keeping all the work in one
place as well as creating seperate pages with specific things.
13. Slideshare.net
I had to create a Slideshare account in order to transfer my
PowerPoint slides into my blog. I have never used Slideshare
before so I learnt how to create the account and then how to
upload the PowerPoint and find the embedded code for Wordpress
in order to transfer it onto my blog for easy access.
14. This is the process I followed in order to get the code for the
slideshare, I had to upload the powerpoint onto the software and
then when clicking the share option it came up with separate
codes for each website.
15. Powerpoint
I have used powerpoint for some of the write up with
my media product. I have used powerpoint many times
before, so no new skills were learn specifically from the
use of it.
16. YouTube
Throughout the process of my media product, I used YouTube to
look at the general styles of my target audience though the music
they enjoy as well as adding music links into my blog. I have used
YouTube before so no new skills were learn however I did learnt
that I could put music videos into my blog and that it was easy to
do.
