Hi everyone. Simon and I have worked together for over 4 years on the development of e-learning content from slightly different perspectives – Simon as Westpac’s e-learning manager will give you some great insight into how to convert classroom training into e-learning from within a corporation. I as an external e-learning content development provider will provide an insight into the nuts and bolts of the content development process – what’s involved and how to make it work effectively and smoothly. Before we start we’d like to get an idea of what experience you’ve all had with e-learning. Can you put up your hand if you have been involved in the development of an e-learning module? Keep your hands up. Now can you also raise your hand if you’re planning to develop e-learning in the next 6 months.
Total we’re going to take you through a 6 step process for converting content into an e-learning format. We’ve also documented this process in a handout which you can take with you at the end of this workshop. Simon will take you through the first three steps of the process – identifying needs, assessing the audience and engaging stakeholders. I’ll then take you through the development and implementation process and demonstrate an e-learning example highlighting how we converted it from a classroom format. We’ll then summarise and open up for questions.
Obviously there are a number of differences between developing classroom training and e-learning. Key differences are: For e-learning development you’ll need to focus a lot more on the technology – IT will need to be involved While process is important for the development of classroom materials it’s even more vital for
