What is Mobile Phone Marketing?
Mobile phone marketing is a relatively new term and can be referred to as a different type of marketing.
This innovative category deals with marketing on a mobile device such as an iPad, PDA, or Smartphone.
A broad definition of mobile phone marketing is using any type of mobile device as a way to market communications.
Companies use social network sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace to distribute their promotions and advertisements.
The most common way to do this is through the use of a mobile device, such as those listed above.
Almost every company or corporation these days has an application that can be downloaded to a mobile device.
This encourages consumers to stay loyal customers by receiving 'fans only' discounts and promotions, along with the most up to the minute details on sales going on with that company.
Marketing via SMS
The use of marketing through a cellular phone has become a popular means of advertisement since the use of SMS.
It originated in countries such as Europe and Asia in the early part of this decade when corporations started gathering cellular phone numbers and send off information.
SMS has increased in Europe and Asia as an innovative way to reach new customers.
It was receiving bad press for being another form of spam, but since then regulations have been set to monitor spam. SMS is now becoming the most popular form of advertising in the industry.
In Europe, 100 million SMS messages related to advertising are going through each month.
In order for this type of marketing to be successful, one of the criteria is the customer wants and actually elects to be a part of the service.
The consumer must also be allowed to stop a subscription of any kind by texting the word "STOP" to the company they are subscribing with.
Any corporation using mobile marketing via SMS in the United States follows these guidelines.
Mobile phone marketing via MMS
Using MMS as a form of mobile phone marketing is similar to SMS, but can utilize slideshows of images, videos, sound, and text.
Most any new cellular phone device comes equipped with the capability to use MMS, but usually there is a data plan charge for these services that not all consumers are willing to pay for.
Some companies can and do sponsor person to person messaging, but this form of mobile phone marketing is still new and not as popular as the cheaper and more practical SMS method.
Mobile web marketing
Major search engines such as Bing, Google, or Yahoo are seen on cellular phone devices. These search engine sites have links to companies or services who sponsor them.
The Mobile phone marketing Association has regulations for these websites as well.
A consumer can opt to have advertising that is designed only for cellular devices. Although these search engine sites have used advertisements for many years, with the rise of mobile phone marketing,
 the target market is becoming more specific as the sites track what consumers are searching for.
Mobile phone marketing is an innovative method of promoting and advertising business. It is another way for companies to keep up with the times as technology increases.
Companies are quickly learning they have to use cellular phone applications and social networks to keep the attention of the consumer in this new age world.
Mobile phone marketing 73% of the world population uses mobile phones. 29% of the world population use the Internet.
Mobile marketing generates a 15% to 20% response versus a hopeful 1% response rate with conventional media. Mobile marketing reaches more than 4 billion mobile users.
The mobile phone marketing way of doing business is ready to explode.
