Specialized engineering systems are mechanical equipment with complex computer control functions and communication interfaces embedded in it. Often, these systems are proprietary, mission critical and operate 24x7, allowing little time for maintenance. All these characteristics make the design, project management and maintenance of specialized systems challenging and different from other domains of engineering. My experience in the aviation industry put me in a good position to manage a mission critical specialized system.
