1. The United Kingdom
A presentation about the UK by the students of the 6th
grade of the 4th Primary School of Ermoupolis –Syros,
in Greece, as a result of a geography project. The
Cross-curricular approach was implemented getting
the co-operation of English and Geography started.
2. The United Kingdom
• The United Kingdom is a
country in north-
western Europe and
consists of two parts:
Great Britain and
Northern Ireland.
• Great Britain includes :
Scotland , England and
Wales.
3. • The United Kingdom is
an island country, which
means that it is
surrounded by the sea.
To the south its border
is The English Channel,
to the East is the North
Sea and to the West ,
the Irish Sea and the
Atlantic Ocean.
4. • The capital city of the UK
is London. However, the
capital of Scotland is
Edinburgh, of England,
London, of Wales, Cardiff
and of Northern Ireland,
Belfast. The population of
the UK is , approximately,
60,000,000 people. The
land is about 130,279km2
5. The Union Flag has elements of all
parts that form the UK, because it is a
union of countries, after all.
6. • The climate in the UK is
cold, rainy and foggy.
Perhaps, that is why
British people always ask
about the weather. It is
mainly an agricultural
country and farming is
really important,
although the Industrial
Revolution began in
England in the 18th
century.
7. • The type of their
government is :
Constitutional
Monarchy, with Queen
Elizabeth II, as their
monarch.
• Their currency is the
Pound Sterling (GBP)£.
8. • The major language is
English, but they also
speak Gaelic in parts of
the UK, mainly in
Scotland , Wales and
Northern Ireland. People
say that English is the
international language
and that is the most
important influence of
the UK in the world.
• The main religion is
Christianity with the
Church of England the
official church. It is,
however, a multicultural
society , open to
everybody from
everywhere .
9. • Scotland and its capital
Edinburgh are very
famous for their
beautiful castles, Harry
Potter was filmed in
one of those. Scotland
is also famous for Loch
ness and its monster, if
it exists at all!
10. • Wales and its capital
Cardiff are famous for
its university and the
nice landscape.
11. • Northern Ireland and its
capital , Belfast, are
famous for their history.
Ireland is a country full
of myths and magic,
leprechauns and fairies.
12. London is , perhaps, the
most famous city in England.
There are many things to do
and see, visit the Big Ben,
the London Eye, the houses
of Parliament, many
museums and many more!
London is the most
populated city in the UK.
The river Thames runs
through the city.

very famous for their
good manners and the
fact that they are
always on time. Being
polite is very important.
Their sense of humour
is also very special and
different.
• Mr Bean and the
Monty Pythons are
examples of their
typical humour.The
films based on books
about James Bond and
the stories of Agatha
Christie give us many
characteristics of the
British people, too.
15. • Shakespeare , with
Romeo and Juliet and
Hamlet, Tolkien with
the Lord of the Rings
and J.K.Rowling with
Harry Potter are some
of the most popular
writers in the world ,
coming from the UK.
• Rock music would not
be the same without
the British as well. The
Beatles, John Lennon,
the Rolling Stones,
Deep Purple, Rainbow,
Pink Floyd, Oasis are a
few of the names in
rock that influenced
music all over the
world.
16. • The British cuisine is not
very popular. One of the
few things that are
known is the typical
English breakfast. But
not many people will
like it!
