Ancient observeres thought stars were the flickering
torchs of the gods. These old believs are poetic. However,
the real reason stars twinkle is that their light must pass
through the Earth's atmosphere. Moving air currentes and
dust cause starlight to bend. Our ancestores may not have
understood why stares twinkle. However, they could enjoy
seeing thousandes of them while watching their flocks of
sheeps. During our lifes, artificial lighting has brightened
the night sky over citys. Rayes from streetlightes and neon
signs of factorys obscure our view. Today pollution
interferes with our searchs of the night skys.

Outlining
• A good paper has three main parts‐the introduction, the body, and
the conclusion. The introduction presents the topic or purpose, the
body provides the information, and the conclusion summarizes the
main ideas of the presentation.
• Many writers develop the outline of the body first. It helps them
focus their material in an organized way. The introduction and
conclusion become easier to write when the body of the speech is
“under control.”
