39. 1.
• X hunting had been popular among witches and wizards since the
early 1100s. The YX was commonly found in Northern Europe.
This species was almost undetectable by Muggles due to their
hiding skills and agility. These qualities added to the prestige of
witches and wizards who managed to catch them, hence making
YX hunting a popular sport. This caused the number of wild YXs to
decrease exponentially. A certain Madam Rabnott and a Sir
Bowman Wright took action to save these species by stopping such
activities and providing a suitable alternative. The YX is a
protected species in the wizarding world, as of today. What is YX,
and what was the alternative?

• The word X entered the English Language in the 17th century, and
is derived from the Middle French word for ‘rascal’. It refers to
someone who roams around in quest of plunder. You might hear
news reports about a/an X breaking into cars and stealing them.
Xs don’t target a specific victim or elaborately plan a crime, they
are constantly on the move looking for things to rob.
• X is also the name of an American metalcore band, active since
1990.
• What is X?
51. 5.

Rowling came up with the _________ _______ by taking inspiration
from those of several famous English public schools; notably Eton
College, Harrow School and Hill House School.
• More specifically, the tailcoats are inspired by Eton, the flat boater
hats are inspired by Harrow, and the awful colour-scheme and
knickerbocker trousers were inspired by Hill House.

55. 6.
• According to some fan theories, X is actually Eileen Prince (Snape’s
mother) in hiding, though this hasn’t been confirmed yet. The
most common support to this theory is the anagram of X’s full
name. Other elements that support it are X’s facial features which
include a hooked nose and dark hair, just like Severus Snape. X is
also known to be strict and rude. Identify X.
58. 7.
“[…] after a few more seconds he realized that what he was watching was the
creation of pamphlets, that the paper squares were pages, which when
assembled, folded and magicked into place, fell into neat stacks beside each
witch or wizard.
Harry crept closer, although the workers were so intent on what they were
doing that he doubted they would notice a carpet-muffled footstep, and he slid
a completed pamphlet from the pile beside a young witch. He examined it
beneath the Invisibility Cloak. Its pink cover was emblazoned with a golden
title: _____
Beneath the title was a picture of a red rose, with a simpering face in the middle
of its petals, being strangled by a green weed with fangs and a scowl. There was
no author’s name upon the pamphlet, but again, the scars on the back of his
right hand seemed to tingle as he examined it.”
This is an extract from the books describing the discovery of a certain pamphlet
created by the Ministry. Name the pamphlet and its author.

Hogwarts students play various enchanted games to amuse
themselves, one of them being X. In an extremely funny turn of
events, the German translated version of the series, made a rather
unfortunate mistake in the translation of X. This mistake wasn’t
corrected for a long time and so, an entire generation of German-
speaking Potterheads was led to believe that the Hogwarts
students played the game X as a cruel mockery towards Y, an
important character in the series. What was the mistake? (or)

“You called her a liar?”

“You told her He Who Must Not Be Named is back?”

There was a very embarrassed pause. Then, none of them looking at
each other, they all said "Thanks," and hurried off to get plates.
But from that moment on, Hermione Granger became their friend.
There are some things you can't share without ending up liking each
other, and battling a three-headed monstrous canine is one of them.
EXTRACT 1

“And you’ll be sticking to that story, boy, or there’ll be trouble,” spat
Uncle Vernon.

79. Ron had taken over responsibility for Buckbeak’s appeal. When he
wasn’t doing his own work, he was poring over enormously thick
volumes with names like The Handbook of Hippogriff Psychology
and Ave or Grave? A Study of Hippogriff Cruelty. He was so
absorbed, he even forgot to be horrible to Crookshanks.
EXTRACT 3
81. “I can teach you how to bewitch the mind and ensnare the senses. I

stopper in death. Then again, maybe some of you have come to
Hogwarts in possession of abilities so formidable that you feel

Patroclus Achilles triangle of the Iliad.”

_____ _______ ____.”
FITB to connect this to a similar scene in the Harry Potter Universe.
96. 2.
Both being people with flamboyant personalities, it is often
speculated that X and Y are the same person. Certain entities found
in X’s world can be easily compared to those in Y’s world. Also, both
entities are seen as working class, and engage in labour most of the
time. The objects seen in the 1971 movie adaptation that features Y,
might be a spooky allusion to how X probably felt after the death of
a certain somebody. Also, Y suffers from a disability that X would
eventually fall victim to. One of the most iconic parts of Y’s apparel
also happens to feature on the front door of X’s shop. As an added
hint, while neither X nor Y are the protagonists of their respective
stories, note that both the stories’ protagonists overcame hard times
and fought against the odds.
99. 3.
JK Rowling has stated many times that her favorite Shakespeare
play is Macbeth, and that it has inspired many elements in the Harry
Potter series. One influence is the parallel drawn between
Trelawney’s prophecy and the one made by the Three Witches to
Macbeth about his fate. Another influence is a song featured in the
third movie’s soundtrack which has the line, ‘Double double, toil
and trouble’, a line taken directly from the Witches’ spells.
There is one more, rather fun influence in the series. The Three
Witches were collectively known by a name, which was the direct
inspiration for the name of an entity which finds various mentions
throughout the HP series. It makes its first appearance in Harry
Potter & the Goblet of Fire.
What is this entity that we are talking about?

Consumption of this pill makes the person purple in the face and
straining hard during certain times of the day, giving the same facial
expression as if they’re trying to practice non-verbal spells for the
first time. The pills can be mashed up and added in food or
beverages. When given to a sufficient number of unknowing takers,
it makes them forget about bigger problems and mesmerizes them
by this new sensation. What are we talking about?
116. 8.
“I didn’t shoot it like a scene where you say action and cut. I kind of
let the camera roll for four or five minutes and I let X and Y
improvise…build an intensity together. X was able to just let go a
little bit and forget for a moment that she was acting. The screams
were quite horrible to listen It was a very odd energy in the room. In
that moment and in that day and in that room, she kind of crossed
the line as an actress.”-David Yates.
Put Funda/Give X and Y.

“Three dementor attacks in a week and all Romilda Vane does is ask
me if it’s true that you’ve got a X tattooed across your chest.” Ron
and Hermione roared with laughter while Harry ignored them.
“What did you tell her?” “I told her it’s a Hungarian Horntail,” said
Ginny, turning a page of the newspaper idly. “Much more macho.”
“Thanks,” said Harry, grinning. “And what did you tell her Ron’s got?”
“A Y, but I didn’t say where.”
Ron scowled as Hermione rolled around laughing.
122. 10.
X is a condition characterized by throbbing temples caused due to
spending too many continuous hours poring over J.K. Rowling’s
Harry Potter series. The pain usually resolves 1-2 days after the
patient finishes the book. This term was coined by Dr. Howard J
Bennett in a letter to the editor of The New England Journal of
Medicine on October 30th 2003. In his letter he says “The take-home
message for kids is to keep reading. Read at a desk with good
lighting and take breaks.”
What is X?
