Loren Weiss, a recent graduate of Stuyvesant High School, participated in the 2013 World Open Chess tournament over Fourth of July weekend in Arlington, Virginia. He played in the U2000 section and won five out of nine games at the highly competitive tournament that attracts top players from around the world and had 10 Grand Masters splitting first prize this year. Weiss has a high junior ranking from the U.S. Chess Federation and the title of Candidate Master, and played on his high school chess team for four years and now participates in chess at the University of Michigan.
