1. PRESENT CONTINUOUS
A) Usos
El Present Continuous lo utilizamos para:
1. Para acciones que se producen en el momento en el que hablamos.
Ex.: They are talking about it right now. Están hablando sobre ello justamente
ahora.
2. Para acciones prolongadas que empezaron hace un tiempo y siguen en proceso.
Ex.: I’m redecorating my room. Estoy pintando mi habitación.
3. Para acciones programadas que se producirán en un futuro cercano.
Ex.: I’m meeting Barbara tonight. Me encuentro con Bárbara esta noche.
4. Para acciones que se repiten regularmente y que tienen un sentido de queja o
monotonía.
Ex.: She is always losing her keys. Siempre pierde sus llaves.
B) Expresiones temporales
Con el Present Continuous se utilizan estas expresiones:
- now / right now / at the moment
ahora / ahora mismo / en este momento
- today / tonight
hoy / esta noche
- this morning / evening / week / month / year, etc.
Esta mañana / tarde-noche / semana / mes / año, etc.
They are playing football now. Ellos están jugando a fútbol ahora.
Today, she is writing letters. Hoy, ella està escribiendo cartas.
We are playing in a concert this month. Nosotros tocamos en un concierto este mes.

2. D) Forma
Afirmativa – Se hace con el verbo to be (am, is, are) + el verbo principal acabado en –ing.
I am reading now. Estoy leyendo ahora.
He is eating dinner at the moment. Él está comiendo en este momento.
Negativa - En negativa añadimos not a am, pero a is y are podemos agregarle not o la
contracción n’t.
I am not reading now. I’m not reading now.
He is not eating at the moment. He isn’t eating at the moment.
Interrogativa – Lss preguntas empiezan con am, is o are, despues va el sujeto y el verbo
acabado en –ing.
Are you reading now? ¿Lees ahora?
Is he eating at the moment? ¿Come él en este momento?
I’m drinking a coke at the moment
She’s watching TV now
They are studying English right now
pasado ____________ AHORA _____________ futuro
Estructura:
Afirmativa: Sujeto + TO BE + Verbo –ING + …
(am/is/are)
She is eating an apple
Negativa: Sujeto + TO BE not + Verbo –ING + …
(am not/isn’t/aren’t)
She isn’t eating an apple
Interrogativa: TO BE + sujeto + verbo –ING + … ?
(am/is/are)
Is she eating an apple?

3. C) Reglas ortográficas para añadir la terminación –ing
Casi todos los verbos añaden –ing sin problemas (do – doing), pero es necesario saber estas
reglas:
1. Si acaban en –e muda, quitamos esta letra antes de añadirle –ing.
drive – drivingmake – making pero... see – seeing
2. Si acaban en –ie, cambiamos estas dos letras y añadimos y antes de añadirle –ing.
die – dying lie – lying
3. Los monosílabos acabados en 1 vocal + 1 consonante doblan esta consonante antes
de añadirle –ing.
sit – sitting run – running
4. Los bisílabos acabados en 1 vocal + 1 consonante y pronunciados como una palabra
aguda doblan la consonante antes de añadirle –ing, pero si el acento no cae en la
última síl·laba no lo hace.
begin – beginning refer – referring però... listen – listening
Nota: Los que acaban en –y, -w o –x nunca doblan esta letra final.
stay – staying snow – snowing fix – fixing
