2. Story
The dirty duke- George Villiers who was the first duke of
Buckingham has been known to manhandle the women in the
powder room, and has been chased by a former landlord when
he was caught spying on the landlady in the shower. All of this
has been done in ”spirit form” as when the landlord tried to
chase the man he seemed to just vanish.
A ghostly figure seen in a chair next to the fireplace is said to
resemble the duke, whose laboratory for alchemical research
was on the same site as the back of the pub.

• Doctor Who
– In the audio, the voices are balanced with sound
effects. This is so the listener gets a feel of the
atmosphere trying to be portrayed. In this case,
the sound effects create a sense of power to
reflect the doctors personality and how the
producers want him to be presented. The Audio
also includes background music to create an eerie
and dangerous tone which builds up as the audio
progresses. This is done to portray the actors
views on the doctor throughout the audio.
5. Existing Products Research
• Lore
-The audio only really includes one piece of backing
music. This piece is very slow and calming to reflect the
peaceful tone the creator wants to convey. The volume
of the music rarely changes. This is keep a feel of
continuity throughout the podcast and making sure it
maintains the same tone at all times.
6. Existing Products Research
• Short Cuts- The other side
– The podcast includes a peaceful backing track
when the presenter is speaking as they clearly
want to make the audience relaxed while listening
to the audio. However, it its volume isn’t very loud
as the producer clearly wants you t listen carefully
to what she is saying In fact, when they have
experienced guests on talking about the topic
there isn’t any music at all as what they have o see
is clearly very important and they want you to
listen as music my sometimes distract you.
7. Existing Products Research
• Soundscape haunted house
– The audio in this soundtrack builds up over-time.
This is to build up the tension for the audience
which is good as it resembles the overall theme.
This would be good for a horror film as all the
sounds affects have an eerie feel therefore fitting
in well with the tone of the film. The high amount
of layers of different effects creates a complex feel
therefore building tension even more.

Initial Reaction
• I was initially very excited to do
this audio task as radio and
podcasting is one of the career
paths I am interested in. However,
I think it will be quite difficult as
there is no video included. This
means we are going to have to
portray the tone of the product
through just the sound effects and
background music. I think I will
enjoy the project as I will learn
about something I am highly
interested in and my overall skills
on this specific area.
11. Proposal
Working Title:
The Dirty Juke
Audience:
My audience is for listeners over the age of 16. This is because my audio is going to be a very dark tone
which may not be suitable for viewers under this age. As well as that, younger generations wouldn't’t
even be that interested as most children don’t enjoy listening to the radio or a podcast as it may bore
them. My project would appeal to people over this age as they would be able to handle it and many
teenagers enjoy things which keep them on edge. They are also old enough to concentrate on the audio
without getting distracted especially if it something they are interested in. I believe my audio will interest
all genders and all sexualities as the subject is very diverse and is open to anyone.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The project that I am going to make is going to be in the form of a documentary and is going to be part of
series all dedicated to different ghost stories. This is because I feel this form will be best for this tone of
audio and the series will mean that the product gains a loyal and constant audience. The project will be
about the story of the dirty juke which is a famous ghost story in York. The audio will include a slow and
dark toned backing music to portray the feel I want to convey throughout the audio. It will also include
many different sound effects like a heartbeat and creaking doors. This is to build up tension and make the
listener more indulged in the audio. For my project need to research the story and history behind the
ghost to get a vey good and detailed understanding of the topic. This is so I know exactly what I am talking
about therefore the audience will listen and pay more attention to what I am saying. If I didn't’t know
much about the topic, I would have an engaged audience therefore making the audio pointless.
What is the concept for your project and what are you going to make?
What research did you need to conduct and how will it help you make your project?
12. Script
Beginning- The city of York is known for its large array of ghost stories.
However, this specific one really takes my interest so join me as we escape
down into the dark sides of York.
Middle- Todays story is all about George Villiers who was the first duke of
Buckingham. In his lifetime he was known to ”manhandle” women and these
traits have not stopped after his death. It has been said that the duke has
been caught spying on ladies in the Cock and Bottle pub but has been seen in
a “spirit like form”. Then, when chased by the landlord, he completely
vanished. As well as that, a ghostly figure has regularly been seen sitting in a
chair near the fireplace in the pub who resembled the duke. This is a
coincidence as his laboratory for alchemical research was on the same site as
the back of the pub.
End- I personally find this very interesting as it is almost clear evidence that
ghosts and spirits do exist. However, does this scare you knowing that ghosts
and spirits could be anywhere? Anyway tune in next week for another
installment and find out more about the ghosts around you.

17. Daily Reflection Day 1
• On the first day of production, I recorded my
script on my phone using a muffler for better
audio quality. I had to do a few different takes
on each section to make sure there was no
errors and that the audio quality was clean. I
also recorded the majority of the sound
effects I needed for my product. I used
different objects in college for different
effects. For example, I recorded creaking
noise by recording the creak of a door.
18. Daily Reflection Day 2
• On day 2, I recorded a few more sound effects
for my audio so that it adds more layers therefore
conveying the scary tone I want to portray. After
that, I imported all my audio onto the mac and
began to edit it. This involved cutting my audio
and effects to make the audio the best it can be. I
also imported some background music and a few
more scary noises to create tension for the
listener. This is all benefiting me as this could
perhaps be a career path for me and all the small
skills and tips I am picking up will benefit me in
some way.
19. Daily Reflection Day 3
On day 3, I have continued editing my audio to
try remove as many errors as possible and just
adding different layers to make it sound as
professional as possible. I also made a start on
my evaluation of my audio. This allows me to
reflect on what I have made and see my
strengths and weakness in this specific area. This
allows me to see what I can improve on in the
future.
23. Research
• For my research on this project, I listened to three types of audio which were all
very different. This included an audio drama, soundscapes and a documentary
style audio. This allowed me to get an idea of how to portray the tone I wanted
to create as each audio was specificity to create a tone and all succeeded to
convey that tone. This shows how well they were all produced hence why each
one was good research material. After listening to the different audio types, I
analysed each one individually to break it down and see the specific positives
and negatives in each. This allowed me to realise what things I did not want to
include in my audio and how I could make mine affect the audience in the way I
wanted. I also researched how different Foley artists created their different
sounds for the different projects they were working on. This gave me a good
idea of how I could create some of my sounds as I would have never thought of
some of the ideas that they used. To improve my research, I would listen to even
more types of audio that are trying to convey a similar tone to me so that I can
pick up even more ideas from others.
24. Planning
• When planning I wrote up a script for my audio. I made this a good
length as I didn't’t want the audio to drag however, it has to be long
enough so that the tone is portrayed to the listener. I also tried to aim it
interesting as you want the audience to be engaged at all times
throughout the audio. Overall, the audio alone came to around 80
seconds and that was without any sound effects or any editing changes. I
then had to plan and decide what sound effects I needed and how I could
create them. I decided on what needed by listening to other scary
soundtracks and watching Foley artists on YouTube to get some ideas on
how I create the sound effects I wanted. This benefitted me a lot as I
would have never thought of some of the ideas that they used. To
improve my planning, I would create all the sound effects myself instead
of using a few from YouTube. This would perhaps make the audio sound a
little more realistic therefore engaging the listener more.
25. Time Management
• My time management was okay as I did completed what was
required in the amount of time that was set. However, I could
have done with a bit more time just to make sure my audio was
perfected even more by just adding little extras and
improvements. If I did have ore time, I would have spent more
time on my sound effects to make them as clear and crisp as
possible as some of them aren't as good as they could be. I would
also create every sound effects myself instead of using a few from
YouTube. I did this as I couldn't’t record good enough ones in the
time I had.
26. Technical Qualities
• My project was similar to existing products in the way that I
created my sound effects. I used different objects I could find to
create a noise which symbolised the tone I wanted to portray in my
audio. For example, the creaking of a door or footsteps created my
stamping on a table. This is similar to how professional Foley Artists
do it as they use what they can find around them to make the
different sound effects they need. However, the Foley artists have
much more professional equipment and a larger array of tools and
objects they can use to make their sound effects. This meant that I
had to choose carefully and perfectly execute the effects I created.
My work is quite technical as there are different layers of audio to
convey the tone of the audio. For example, I have included the
creaking of a door and eerie noises.
27. Aural Qualities
• My project does sound quite good as I used a microphone with a
muffler on to record my audio. This meant this was the best quality
audio I could record in these circumstances. The added sound
effects to my audio are also good as it adds layers to it meaning the
tone is portrayed and the audience will feel more engaged in the
audio. Some of the sound effects I created were creative as I used
different things around college to create them. I recorded them
similarly to how Foley artists record their sound effects. However, I
would improve some of my effects by recording many different
recordings of the same noise so that I could get the bets possible
effect to make my audio sound more professional.
28. Audience Appeal
• My target audience was anyone over the age of 16 years old. I
appealed to this audience by conveying a very scary and eerie tone
to my audio. This appeals to them as a lot of young adults and
older teenagers want to be scared and enjoy the adrenaline rush
they get whilst watching good horror films.
