2. • Louise Gund has dedicated much of her life to organizations that protect the environment and
endangered species. She has been a longtime supporter of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, having first
discovered the work of Dian Fossey through the film Gorillas in the Mist. Louise Gund also spent
several years as a board member of Earthjustice and is now an honorary life trustee of the nonprofit
organization. Previously, she served as a lobbyist, focusing on such causes as preserving the Arctic
National Wildlife Refuge, keeping our water clean, and saving wolves. In addition, Ms. Gund is a
strong proponent of sustainability in foresting and farming.
• Since she was a child, Ms. Gund has also been a keen lover of storytelling and the arts. She has fueled
this love by supporting numerous arts organizations, including the Berkeley Repertory Theatre and
the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF). Previously, Ms. Gund was a member of the Cal Performances
Board of Directors. There, she helped students at UC Berkeley experience music, dance, and drama
performances. Today, Ms. Gund is a board member of the San Francisco Opera and OSF.
• Over the last decade, Ms. Gund has built on her passion for the theatre by producing six plays and
musicals on Broadway. Most notably, she brought Lynn Nottage’s Sweat, which debuted at OSF in
2015, to the Off-Broadway Public Theater and, later, to Broadway itself. Sweat transferred to London
in 2018, playing at the Donmar Warehouse and on the West End before receiving an Olivier Award
nomination in 2019.
• Ms. Gund also produced All the Way, a 2014 Broadway production starring Bryan Cranston. The show
won the Drama Desk Award for Best Play as well as Tony Awards for Best Play and Best Actor.
Combined, Ms. Gund’s shows have been nominated for more than a dozen awards.
