- so what is EasyCapture? EasyCapture is a screen capture program that allows you to take a number of different types of screenshots. Does EasyCapture require an installation? Yes. You must install EasyCapture like any regular program. It would be found in the Start menu under All Programs then right? Yup, that’s right.
- Why would we use EasyCapture instead of using the print screen keyboard key? Not only does EasyCapture have a number of different capture options, but each option also has its own defined hot key. So EasyCapture can take various captures, and we can use a hot key for each one. What else can it do? EasyCapture also has some image editing. You can crop, rotate and resize you captured image, add boxes or lines, add text and text boxes, and even edit or adjust the image colour and levels. Being able to do that all with the same program will save time compared to the keyboard print screen and paint method.
- When easycapture starts, you start off with a blank viewing window. To the right of the save button you will notice four buttons that look like windows, these are the four main types of captures you can do with easycapture. If you take a look at the side tool bar you will notice a number of editing tools including the cropping tool, shape tools, and text tools. There are more image editing tools under the Image pull down menu.
- One of the great features of EasyCapture are the hot keys. The hot keys allow you to create captures while working on any program. You simply hold down the keys required for whichever type of capture you wish, then wait for the capture to either take place, or give you the option of what to select. The hot keys are customizable. Once you are in the “Define Hot keys” window you can click on any of the buttons and change the hot key. This is really important to know if you have other programs running that use the same hot keys.
- With EasyCapture you have the choice of what to do with a captured image. If you go into your capture settings you can either send a captured image to the clipboard, to the editor, or to a file. You can even do all three. If you are taking multiple screenshots and don’t need to edit them, saving them to a file can save you a bit of time and hassle. On the “Other” tab of the capture settings you have to option to set a delay time before the capture occurs. If you need to open a menu or highlight any options before the capture happens, adding a delay is extremely helpful.
- We will now take a look at the four most used capture options. The first one is the full screen capture. This capture simply takes a screen shot of your entire screen as it appears. This acts much like the function of the print screen button on your keyboard. However, it saves you the hassle of opening it with an editing program since EasyCapture can automatically open the capture into its editor.
- The next option is the region capture. This allows you to select the rectangular area you would like to capture. The selection tool also comes with a zoom window on the side to help you find the exact start and stop pixel. This is a great help when you are trying to be precise with your capture.
- The third type is the window capture. This allows you to either select a rectangular area of a program or window, or even the entire window if needed. A rectangular area of the window might be an image pane, toolbar, text box, or any bordered off rectangular area. This type of capture is great when you need to display only a specific part of a window
- The last option is the active window capture. This captures the entire window of a program or folder you were last working in.
