A qualitative education produces enlighten and vibrant people. Family experiences are very significant in influencing childrens performance in schools around the world. Research has shown that parental encouragement enhances, childrens academic performance especially by people with whom they communicate in their first stages of life. Against this background that this study was undertaken to examine the influence of family background on the academic performance of students in Economics in Port Harcourt Metropolis. The study was guided by three objectives which are to find out if there is a relationship between parental educational level and studentâ€™s academic performance in Economics determine the influence of parental income on studentsâ€™ academic performance in Economics and to find out if there is any significant relationship between the parental level of motivation and studentsâ€™ academic performance in Economics. This study is anchored on socialization theory. The study adopted a survey design to determine the influence of family background on students academic performance. The population of that study is the entire secondary school in Port Harcourt Metropolis. The study randomly selected 80 students and 20 teachers in Port Harcourt Metropolitan. Descriptive statistics and simple percentages and tabulation were used for the data collected by way of a questionnaire. Chi square was used when evaluating the null hypotheses. The study above showed that the family background of students and their academic success in economics subject is significantly positive. Based on the study findings the following recommendations were made Social and economic policies should be introduced to give children with low economic status equal opportunities to support their childrens education. Parents should provide a home environment that supports and motivates children to achieve better education at school. This can be done by teaching your children at home to improve schoolwork and to provide the necessary learning material. A cross sectional design was used to assess the knowledge regarding breast-feeding problems and its management among 100 postnatal mothers who were selected by using purposive sampling technique. Data was collected by Structured Interview schedule and breast feeding assessment checklist. The findings of the study revealed that the overall mean knowledge score was 15Â±3.33. According to area the highest mean score was in the area of introduction about breast-feeding 7.14Â± 1.94 and lowest in engorgement of breast 1.22 Â± 1.01 . Rank wise assessment of breast-feeding problems shows that less than half 46 of the mothers were having painful nipple and only 14 and 13 of mothers were having inverted and cracked nipple. Majority 60 of postnatal mothers had average knowledge regarding breast-feeding problems and its management. From the study findings it could be concluded that postnatal mothers had average knowledge regarding breast-feeding problems and its management. Thus, health education programs are required to enhance the knowledge regarding postnatal breast problems. Background UP, India’s most popular state recorded the most diarrhoeal deaths. 22.21 deaths nationwide over five year to 2017. Method A quantitative evaluative approach using questionnaire on diarrhoea. Pre experimental one group pre test and post test design was used. Convenient sampling technique was used to select 30 samples from the selected Anganwadi in Lucknow. Initially researcher got permission for study from concern authorities. Pre test done followed by structured teaching program on prevention and home management of diarrhoea for 50 min followed by 10 min session of question and answer. A post test was conducted after 2 weeks of structured teaching program. The tools used for data collection, part 1 demographic variables, part 2 assessing knowledge on home management of diarrhoea. Results the pre test mean value of knowledge 23Â±1.9 was lesser than post test mean value 23.62Â±1.75. The effectiveness of STP, the obtained, “t- test value is 9.469. which is found to be greater than the, “t- table value p=0.000 0.01 level at 29df. Since the obtained t value is significant at p 0.01 level, therefore research hypotheses H1 is accepted. It is inferred that, there is significant difference between pre test and post test knowledge regarding diarrhoea among mothers of under five year children. Conclusion The study concludes that the structured teaching program was very effective in providing knowledge prevention and home management of diarrhoea among mothers. Background: Feeding practices and illnesses during infancy are of critical importance for growth and development of children .Though several programs have been implemented by WHO and UNICEF to improve the health status of newborn and infant, child morbidity and mortality rates in rural area are still higher compared to urban areas in India. Objective: To assess the feeding practices and morbidity patterns of infants in a rural field practice area . Methodology: A longitudinal study was undertaken in field practice area under community medicine Department, Guntur from Jan 2013 to march 2014.A birth cohort of hundred children born during first 3 months of study period were assessed and followed up till they attained 1year age .Data collected on feeding practices ,infant illnesses and socio-demographic factors. Results: The incidence of episodes of morbidity was 2.78 per infant per year. Respiratory Tract Infections are most common observed illness followed by diarrhea .Majority of the mothers (90%) Were given colostrum ,50% were breast fed their babies with in 1 hour of delivery,60% were given EBF(Exclusive Breast Feeding ). The illnesses are less common in first 6 months of infancy compared to letter half of life .A Significant association between feeding practices and morbidities Conclusion: Hence focusing education on faulty feeding practices and implementation of IMNCI(integrated management of newborn and childhood illnesses ) at gross root level by health workers need to be emphasized

Mothers who perceive breastfeeding to be healthier, easier and more convenient breastfeed longer than those who perceive that breastfeeding is restrictive, inconvenient and uncomfortable. This study focused on the breastfeeding practices of postnatal mothers with regard to exclusivity, frequency and duration. It was a cross-sectional research design covering the three levels of health care institutions in the South-East Zone of Nigeria. Convenient sampling method was used to select 299 postnatal mothers who visited infant welfare clinics along with their infants. Three research questions and one null hypothesis guided the study. The instruments used for data collection were questionnaire on patterns of breastfeeding by postnatal mothers (QPBF) and checklist on health status of infants with varied breastfeeding patterns (CHSIVBP). Frequency distribution and percentages were used to answer the research questions while chi-square test was used in testing the null hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The result showed that most of the postnatal mothers practiced EBF for a short period, majority breastfed their infants on demand day and night, and majority also reported that their infants suckle the breast for more than 20minutes. Also breastfeeding patterns of the postnatal mothers was found to differ significantly across the three levels of health care institutions. Childbearing mothers need to be motivated on the need to practice EBF for six month postpartum.

Breastfeeding is a key tool for nourishing a baby, preventing childhood illnesses like obesity, and hypertension later on in life. In addition, it reduces the cost to the family and the entire country. Uganda to some extent faces a great deal of challenges, particularly in the health sector. The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge, attitude and practices of exclusive breastfeeding in mothers with infants between 1 day to 2 years of age attending the immunization and the pediatric inpatient in Kiryandongo Hospital and to identify factors that affect exclusive breastfeeding (EBF). A cross-section descriptive survey design was used. 187 respondents were selected randomly. The data were collected using a questionnaire and the data was analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency and percentages. The result of this study showed that 71.2 % knew the correct definition and duration of exclusive breastfeeding, 59.7% exclusively breastfeeds for the first six (6) months of life, 100% gave colostrum to their babies because they believed it provides nutrition and protection to their babies, 87% breastfed on demand. The result also showed that there is a positive attitude of mothers toward exclusive breastfeeding as 86.6% of them agreed that breast milk alone is sufficient to the baby during the first six (6) months of life as well as believed that EBF has benefits to both the infants and the mother. 51% of respondents weaned their babies between 15-18 months and 41% weaned between 19 months to 2 years. It was concluded that there was a high level of knowledge on breastfeeding among the respondents, more than half of the respondents practiced exclusive breastfeeding as recommended and relatively all the respondents had positive attitude toward exclusive breastfeeding. The research aims to find out the impact of Breast Crawl to Breast Milk production on puerperium mother in Rose Room of Abdoel Wahab Sjahranie Regional Public Hospital (RSUD AWS) of Samarinda in 2014. The research was a quantitative research characterized by analytic descriptive with cross sectional research design. Population of the research were puerperium mothers in Rose Room of Abdoel Wahab Sjahranie Regional Public Hospital of Samarinda. The samples taken by non probability sampling was purposive sampling. Data analysis technic used univariate analysis by frequency distribution bivariate analysis by statistics test difference test between two proportions with level of confidence (CI 95%) also  = 5%. CLINICAL BRIEF A Quality Improvement Initiative: Improving Exclusive Breastfeeding Rates of Preterm Neonates Amanpreet Sethi1 & Meena Joshi1 & Anu Thukral1 & Jagjit Singh Dalal1 & Ashok Kumar Deorari1 Received: 7 October 2016 /Accepted: 31 January 2017 /Published online: 24 February 2017 # Dr. K C Chaudhuri Foundation 2017 Abstract This study is a single center quality improvement (QI) initiative in a tertiary care neonatal intensive care unit which was done with an objective to increase the proportion of neonates receiving mother’s own milk (at postnatal age of 7 d) from the current rate of 12.5% to 30% over a period of six weeks. Additional objectives were to evaluate the proportion of mothers’ ex- pressing breast milk within 3 h of birth, on day one and three and the amount of expressed breast milk (EBM) on day one and day seven. A team was formulated to evaluate the reasons for inadequate breast milk expression and to plan the steps for promoting the same. Comprehensive postnatal breast feeding counsel- ing (CPNC) to promote early breast milk expression was initiated soon after the birth of a preterm neonate. CPNC was done for next fifteen mothers and their breast feeding support was streamlined. The effect of CPNC and teamwork was discussed amongst the team members every day and adjustments incorporated (Plan- Do-Study-Act cycle). The proportion of neonates receiving mother’s only milk (MOM) on day 7 increased to 80% (12/15) after 4 wk of QI. Thus, a simple and feasible CPNC package lead to improved breast milk output in mothers. Keywords Breast milk . Neonate . Quality improvement Introduction Exclusive breastfeeding for six months is the most effective preventive strategy for under-five mortality [1]. Host resis- tance factors are abundant in fresh breast milk and when prop- erly collected and stored, it provides the highest quality of anti-infective properties. [2, 3] However, for various reasons, mothers of these neonates face multiple challenges in estab- lishing and maintaining an adequate supply of milk, this phe- nomenon being more common in preterm neonates [4, 5]. The gap in current evidence based implementation is the strategy to reduce the time to first milk expression and to increase frequency of expression and night time expression of milk in these mothers. It is also known that mothers of extremely preterm neonates should be taught early and effective milk expression techniques [6]. The authors identified problem of delayed breast milk expression by mothers of preterm neonates whose babies were admitted in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The frequency of milk expression in these mothers was limited to two to three times in the entire day leading to most neonates receiving predominant formula feed for the first one week.
