Locations
I will be filming in different locations for my short film, The Locations will vary between the different scenes that I
am creating for my short film. This is the set up for my locations.
Chase Scene:
• 78 Princess Drive front of building
• 78 Princess Drive down alley way by side of building
• 78 Princess Drive Back Garden
• Borough Bridge road Walk way
• Princess Drive West (Street)
Victim 1 Scene:
• 43 Hope Street (Bathroom) – Best fitting setting for how I want to set up my scene. (psycho)
Victim 2 Scene:
• 78 Princess Drive (Kitchen) – This location has a table the right size for the scene that I want to create.
(Chainsaw Massacre)
Victim 3 Scene:
• 78 Princess Drive (Bedroom) – This location is good setting for the set I want to create for this scene.
(Halloween)
Victim 4 Scene:
• Borough Bridge River Side (River Between Trees) – A good area to create the crime scene with the Friday the
13th feel. (Friday the 13th)
Victim 5 Scene:
• Hope street (street sign) – The sign is planted in the ground and is the height of someone laid beside it, this is a
perfect setting for my short film. (Nightmare on Elms Street)
Victim 6 Scene:
• 78 Princess Drive (2nd Bedroom) – The desk in this room is the right size and height for the crime scene I was
to make. (child's play)
Locations
Victim 7 Scene:
• 78 Princess drive (back garden) – This is the setting of the final part of the chase scene and as this is where the
final victim dies, its where the body will be found. (Scream)
I have confirmed access to all of these locations and have created storyboards that’s sets up the scene that is in
each of these locations. The reason that I have chosen these locations as my final choice is because I know them,
I can return to them with easy access if I need to do reshoots of different scenes. The places match the vision and
plan that I have for how the scene should look. I'm confident that these locations are the right choice for my short
film.
Finance
I have purchased numerous different items that I can use in my short film, all together the equipment that I have
purchased will help make my film better. I have bought items from equipment to props and costumes and each bit
is as important as the other. This is equipment I have purchased or still need to purchase for the film ready for
filming.
Equipment:
• RPGT Soft box studio Lighting Kit - £43.29 (Purchased)
• 5500k Bulbs - £4.99 x2 (Purchased)
• Fog Machine - £34.60 (Purchased)
• Fog Liquid - £5 (Purchased)
• Fake Blood 500ml - £7.34 (Purchased)
• Light Shaders - £5 (Purchased)
Props:
• Trench coat for detective – (Borrowing)
• Hat For the detective – (Already own)
• Police officer outfit - £31.99 (Not yet purchased)
• Ghost Face Mask - £1.29 (Not yet purchased)
• Chucky Mask - £2.49 (Not yet purchased)
• Freddy Krueger Costume -£20.00 (Not yet purchased)
• Michael Myers mask - £3.75 (Not yet purchased)
• Leather face Mask - £2.67 (Not yet purchased)
• Jason Mask - £3.67 (Not purchased yet)
All together the equipment cost is £105.21 and the Props and Costumes will come to £65.95 all together. This film
will all together cost £171.16. This is not as much as I had originally expected it to cost. Initially from research I had
expected it to cost around £305 But I have reduced the amount of costumes I needed and refined the story.
Time
This section is about the time that I will be allocating to aspects of my production and how many days the time
allocated will be over. Its important that I come up with a plan of how much time I should be allowed on a certain
area so that can stay on top of my production.
Time that I have:
Time on Production – 7 Weeks on the Project
Hours in a week – 27 Hours
Hours in the 7 weeks – 189 Hours
Time that I'm allocating to filming and audio based on the weeks that I have to make the product:
Hours on the filming – 50 hours
Weeks – 2 weeks to use these 50 hours in
Days – This will be Filmed over 7 different days
Time I'm allocating to creating the soundtrack of the film:
Hours on the Soundtrack – 15 Hours
Days on the soundtrack – 4 Days
Weeks – 1 Week to spend on the Soundtrack for the film
Time I'm allocating to editing (premier pro and after affects):
Hours on editing and after affects – 54 Hours to edit all the footage
Days on the Editing – 7 Days
Weeks – 2 Weeks will be put into editing.
Time
Time allocated to Reshoots:
Hours – 24 Hours will be allocated to Reshoots
Days – 4 Days
Weeks – 1 Week I will only use one week for reshoots
If I do not need this amount of time on reshoots any extra time will be allocated to editing, weekly reflection or
soundtrack dependent on what needs improvements.
Time allocated to weekly reflection:
Hours – 46 will be put into weekly reflections
Days – The weekly reflection will overlap with other parts of my production as I will be writing a reflection at the
end of every day.
Weeks – 2 (I will have time in the last two week to make sure that this final piece is complete).
Personnel
In this film that I'm using Various different people but some people will be playing multiple people and helping
me with set up the equipment. I will be filming the scenes myself and directing the film, I will also be organizing
and instructing the personnel that are doing the audio recording, lighting, fog machine etc.. I'm confident that
the people I have chosen for this film are the right choice for my film.
Director:
• Luke Ross (Me)
Equipment crew:
• Tom Eastwood – Fog Machine
• Jack Hickman and Kiernan Elsworth – Lighting
• Tahmid Ahmid – Audio recording
• Luke Ross (Me) – Camera
Cast:
• Connor Wiffen – Killer and Detective
• James Case – Chase scene victim and victim 7
• Nathan Hooten – Victim 6 and victim 4
• Kiernan Elsworth – Police officer
• Jack Hickman – Victim 2, 3 and 5
The reason that some people are playing multiple victims is because they will be dressed up and wearing
masks, this means that there isn't a way that the audience will be able to tell it’s the same person playing the
role. I feel that I have enough people to make my final product work, I have covered the base number of
characters
Meetings
Meetings with Cast
In preparation for filming, I needed to make sure that I had a crew that knew what they was doing, the best way
that I could ensure this was by supplying the cast with and crew with a script and job roles before the time of
filming, I felt it important to do this as before when I have asked people to come to help me with a project and
given them all the information needed on where we would be meeting, how long it would be for and what their job
role will entail and yet they I have had issues with people forgetting what was said or getting confused, this time I
created a document for each of them that stated the information that they would be needing. I feel that its
important that I provide this information on paper because this way I feel more confident that I have done all that
I can do to make sure that everyone is prepared.
Equipment (Production and
Post)
I will be using different types of equipment to film my production, make a soundtrack for my production and to
create, collect audio for my production and edit the production as I put all the aspects together. Making the project
wouldn’t be possible without this equipment which is why its important that I book out the equipment far in advance
so that I have it ready to go on the day of filming.
Filming equipment:
• 600D Camera
• 600D Camera Battery
• 700D Camera
• 700D Camera Battery
• SD Card
• Tri Pod
• Boom Mic and Handheld
• LED Lights and Rechargeable Battery's
• Studio Lights
• Fog Machine
Editing Equipment and Programs:
• Apple Mac
• Adobe Premier Pro
• Adobe After Affects
This equipment I have either bought or will book out for the days of filming that I require them, I will be using all of
this equipment in my project.
Audio Equipment:
• Handheld audio recorder
Soundtrack Equipment and program:
• Apple Mac
• Garage Band
• Various different Instruments Package
• Memory Stick

Materials (Costumes and
Props)
I will be using various different Costumes and props, the costumes and props are crucial to my project as they will
immerse the audience in the story and the scenes
Props:
• Knife
• Saw
• Axe
• Fake Blood
• Sand bag
• Chucky doll
• Shovel
Costume:
• Michael Myers Mask
• Freddy Krueger Hat and Glove
• Jason mask (Friday the 13th
• Ghost face Mask
• Clown Mask
These props and costumes will help set the tone and scene, what I intend to create is ambitious but with these
costumes I can create something that is spot on if not then close enough to my plan and visual intension for my
project. The costumes chosen will be mainly used in the crime scenes, this is where the majority of the of the
costumes will be used. The majority of my props will be used in these scenes as well however the sand bag and
knife will be used in the opening chase scene.
Camera (settings, framing,
angles etc…)
In my project I will be using a range of different shots to convey different feelings and meaning in my short film. In
the opening chase scene, the camera will follow the character being chased, the camera throughout the chase
scene, although it will use different shots, as see from my research, using various different shots in a chase
scene is a great way to get a god flow and keep the viewer/ audience entertained by the scene. When down the
alley I will use the Dutch angle often to connotate how the victim is unaware of what's happening and the tight
space will give the audience the feeling of a claustrophobic feel around he character. I will be adjusting the
Aperture, ISO and Shutter speed on the camera based on what's required for the setting of the scene. I will be
shooting the first scene at night in a street. This chase scene will move the character from a street walk, a house
drive, alley by the house and a back Garden. This means that even though its dark there will be different lighting
by deferent settings for example the street will have a street light where as the alley and wont. As I showed in my
problem solving I will be using a LED Light in all of the scenes, this means that the ISO will be the same for pretty
much for the majority of scenes, this means I can put more focus into the shutter speed and aperture to remove
visual noise manually from each scene.
Camera Angles and Shots that I will use in my film:
• Medium shot
• Tracking shot
• Close up
• Extreme close up
• The Dutch angle
• Low angle
• Extreme close up
• The over the shoulder shot
The shots will be used in various different scenes, from a chase scene to a discovery scene and then finally the
crime scenes.
• Zoom in
• Zoom out
• Tracking zoom
• Dolly zoom
Sound (Ambience and Foley)
In my project I will be using different sound affects, these are sound affects that I will be using I will collect the
different sound affects with a audio recorder. I will record the sound separately because after research into videos
looking into videos that have a heavy focus on sound affects in order to build suspense. I found that its important
to record sound affects separately, this way I can use the volume of each sound differently and when the sounds
are recorded separate I can change the output of volume better creating a more immersive scene with room to
create a specific atmosphere that I want based on the affect that I am creating with the audio, an example of this is
to have sound affects and Foley at low output but slowly make them louder and louder, this can be used to
symbolize how the character is starting to think or become more aware of their surroundings and where they are. I
feel that it will be important to my project to utilize this style of sound design because it could give my project the
exact effect it needs for certain scenes. For the chase scene I will be collecting:
• Footsteps
• Running
• Turning handle
For the following blood trail scene I will use:
• Footsteps
• Door handle turning
• Door Opening
In my Crime scenes the shots will be mainly focused around soundtrack there wont be many sound affects, the
one sound affect that I will use in these scenes will be a flash sound affect from the camera. The main focus in
these scenes are going to be aimed around soundtrack, the soundtrack will have to create
• Lock Turning
• Gate Opening
• Knocking
• Walking down stairs
• Wind blowing
• Car driving
• Wind blowing
• Rain falling
• Thunder Crackling
• Thunder Crackling
• Rain falling
• Lock turning
• Tapping
• Knife slash
• Falling
• Knife Cut
• Blood Splattering
• Slow Walking
• Falling on

• Foot steps
• Slipping on

• Breathing heavy
Post Production
Audio levels, transitions,
Jump cuts and colour
correction
In my editing I will need to heavily think about Audio levels, transitions, Jump cuts and colour correction, its
important that these work effectively.
when working out what level the different sound affects and soundtrack should be at depends on the scene. For the
opening chase scene I will have a heavy focus on the running sound affect this means that the audio level for this
part inperticular will be will be higher then others, I want the chase scene to be more focused around sound affects
than soundtrack so the audio levels on the sound affects will be higher for example, gate opening, running, heavy
breathing and turning lock. This brings more realism into the scene and makes the act and movement more
believable, when the scene turns to the killer the soundtracks audio level will become higher than the sound affects
in order to create more suspense around the killer. The audio level for the next scene will be an even mix of
soundtrack and audio. On the opening titles there will be a focus of soundtrack so the audio level will be higher for
the soundtrack, there will be some focus on sound affects like clocks ticking. My film will have quick cut transitions,
this is to keep the film flowing, I feel that this is the best option for when switching from the chase scene to the
discovering the dead body scene, the different time of day on the next scenes shows that time has passed so a
quick cut transition would quickly match the scenes together. My film will have multiple jump cuts in the chase
scene, this is to change the shot to give a better angle to show connotation and to what's happening. I will be colour
correcting and colour grading all of the shots in my film, the colour I want to bring out n the chase scene is blue, from
research I could see that blue had the best colour grade affect on night shots as long as it is at the right temperature
and the right balance.
Management
Personnel – To manage my personal such as cast and crew I gave each documents the day before filming so that
all members of the cast and crew knew exactly what they would be doing and where organised and prepared. I
managed my crew by giving each a assigned task to follow and equipment. The fog machine has been assigned to
Tom Eastwood, the audio equipment to Tahmid Ahmed and lighting to Jack Hickman. For the cast – in the chase
scene I have two cast members, these are Jake Greenwood and Connor Wiffen, from research into slasher films it
shows that the killers should be tall and towering to show how intimidating they are to other characters and I felt that
Connor Wiffen was the best casting choice for this, I chose Jake Greenwood because I felt that his look and build
and facial acting was best for this role. For the finding body scene I have one cast member who I feel is best fitted
for this role. For my crime scenes I cast Connor Wiffen as the detective ( when playing the killer was wearing a
mask so wouldn’t noticeable it’s the same actor) and for the crime scene Photographer I cast James Case, for the
victim I could use people multiple times as each victim would be dressed differently and would be wearing a mask,
so I cast Connor Garnett, Jake Greenwood and Jack Morton to play the victims, out of 7 victims it was decided they
will change clothes on the day of filming. As for the crew on the crime scenes, this would be the same as the other
two scenes.
Order of completion – the first scene I will be shooting is the chase scene, I will be using multiple shots and as I
want to get it right I have two nights to film in this location. On a separate day later on I will be filming the owner
discovering the body scene I have the location for one day for this scene but if reshoots are needed there is room
later on for another day. For the crime scenes I will be filming in four different locations for seven different scenes. I
will have these locations for 2 days, I have arranged transport on these days to take me from one place to the other,
I created a timetable for the cast and crew as some of these scenes are at night and some are during the day. I
shall spend the next three weeks editing and adding in after affect. Within the second week I will create a
soundtrack this is a different track for each scene. In the final week I shall create a poste for my film to finish off the
product.
Colour scheme
Colour scheme (Grading)
I have chosen twelve colours for my
project that I could possibly use in my
project, I chose twelve colours that I felt
best fitted my project as I will need to
colour grade in my film I feel that these
colours will add a unique look to my
project. The colours are set out so that on
the left side there is a plain take and on
the right side is gritty take on a colour. The
first two colours that I have chosen are
blue, one is gritty and one is more plain, I
think these are two good options as I think
that blue could add a unique look to the
shots. I can achieve this in Premier Pro by
adding noise (this is something I will
experiment with during the grading)
The codes of the colours are:
• Blue = Safety
• Red = Death violence which fits etc etc
• Browns = Outdoor Urban
• Green = Outdoors
• Lighter colours are to experiment with
contrast
• Explanation of Grading approaches
Colour scheme (Wardrobe)
When designing the colour scheme for clothing and props I
needed them to have relevance to the film and to add
context, its important that the audience can associate
different traits to characters and colour in wardrobe choice
is a good way of doing this. For the opening chase scene as
an example I had the person being chased was wearing
dark clothing which shows he isn't innocent as isn't the
Makeup – not used:
No access to that resource – so no colour mapping for
makeup
Fake Blood – colour –
cinema blood – worked well
On screen
Colour experiments for Titles still ongoing
Filter
For the filter of my film I am thinking a blue tint at a low
temperature, this should make the blue visible in the darker
areas making them stand out more, I feel that this will have
a nice visual affect. Another filter option is for a green tint,
not to heavy but just visible to bring more light and make the
tone of the movie in the outdoor scenes look more natural. I
feel this be a good look for the film, from experiments these
two filters have the best look at night scenes.
Style sheet
Titles
For the titles in my opening scene, I want a colour and
style that stands out, the font has to bold and big but
smart and readable, the colour has to stand out and fit
with the tone and style of the film. I want to include
different elements in my titles related to different
styles, for example the font the style of a crime thriller.
Title colours
I want my titles to stand out, this means choosing a
colour that glows on the screen looks visually pleasing,
the colour that I feel fits this best is yellow or orange,
these four colours fit the look best, the colour stands
out in night shots and day shots, perfect for titles on the
crime scene opening. The first colour has a shade to it
although it looks nice I feel that its not bright enough to
stand out or contrast with the look of the scenes. The
main yellow colour is the best look as its bright,
contrasts well with the scene, this is one that I will most
likely be using. The two finale colours are orange a mix
between orange, yellow and green but I feel I want
either plain yellow or orange.
Inspiration
The watchmen intro style also uses Yellow, the way that this
appears is visually pleasing, it contrasts really well with the colour
grading on the image, my colours are styled the same way which is
why using a similar colour would really benefit the design of the
titles. I think that this image demonstrates how I can use lighting on
the colour of the title to blend it in with the scene. With my film
however I want my titles to stand out more with the colour so I will
be going for a brighter yellow, I feel this is best because bright
coloured text is also seen common detective films, which is what
this film fits into.
Image style Fonts
Fonts
For my tittles I will be wanting to have a standout font, the
font will have be bold, rather than small thin text as I want
the text to be a focus. After researching title sequences in
movies it showed me that the best title sequences have their
titles all in capital letters, this is what I believe fits best and
will use this in my titles.
Possible Fonts that could be used in titles
or poster:
• PRODUCTION
• PRODUCTION
• PRODUCTION
• PRODUCTION
• PRODUCTION
• PRODUCTION
• PRODUCTION
• PRODUCTION
• PRODUCTION
• PRODUCTION
These fonts have what I'm looking for, they
are bold and stand out, I feel like the
second to the top font ‘Calisto MT’ will work
best out of the others on this particular list,
it is bold and smart.
Fonts individual letters
I have found that to take an image as seen above and cut them into individual
letters from the image on photoshop, is a lot better for getting the perfect look
for the word I want spell out, this is because I can choose the distance
between each letter, position each letter where I feel it fits best and change the
size of each letter allowing me to create a more artistic and creative style to
the look.
Bold
This font on the left is one that I feel will fit my
product best, its big and bold and it looks neat
and smart, I feel that using this choice will be
the best look for my titles and the poster. If I
apply the yellow colouring to this font and
change the back shadow, I know I can make
this look effective with the rest of my product. I
believe that I can shape my product around this
style of font, making the colour choices and
style of font a defining factor for my project.

Fmp planning

  • 2. Locations I will be filming in different locations for my short film, The Locations will vary between the different scenes that I am creating for my short film. This is the set up for my locations. Chase Scene: • 78 Princess Drive front of building • 78 Princess Drive down alley way by side of building • 78 Princess Drive Back Garden • Borough Bridge road Walk way • Princess Drive West (Street) Victim 1 Scene: • 43 Hope Street (Bathroom) – Best fitting setting for how I want to set up my scene. (psycho) Victim 2 Scene: • 78 Princess Drive (Kitchen) – This location has a table the right size for the scene that I want to create. (Chainsaw Massacre) Victim 3 Scene: • 78 Princess Drive (Bedroom) – This location is good setting for the set I want to create for this scene. (Halloween) Victim 4 Scene: • Borough Bridge River Side (River Between Trees) – A good area to create the crime scene with the Friday the 13th feel. (Friday the 13th) Victim 5 Scene: • Hope street (street sign) – The sign is planted in the ground and is the height of someone laid beside it, this is a perfect setting for my short film. (Nightmare on Elms Street) Victim 6 Scene: • 78 Princess Drive (2nd Bedroom) – The desk in this room is the right size and height for the crime scene I was to make. (child's play)
  • 3. Locations Victim 7 Scene: • 78 Princess drive (back garden) – This is the setting of the final part of the chase scene and as this is where the final victim dies, its where the body will be found. (Scream) I have confirmed access to all of these locations and have created storyboards that’s sets up the scene that is in each of these locations. The reason that I have chosen these locations as my final choice is because I know them, I can return to them with easy access if I need to do reshoots of different scenes. The places match the vision and plan that I have for how the scene should look. I'm confident that these locations are the right choice for my short film.
  • 4. Finance I have purchased numerous different items that I can use in my short film, all together the equipment that I have purchased will help make my film better. I have bought items from equipment to props and costumes and each bit is as important as the other. This is equipment I have purchased or still need to purchase for the film ready for filming. Equipment: • RPGT Soft box studio Lighting Kit - £43.29 (Purchased) • 5500k Bulbs - £4.99 x2 (Purchased) • Fog Machine - £34.60 (Purchased) • Fog Liquid - £5 (Purchased) • Fake Blood 500ml - £7.34 (Purchased) • Light Shaders - £5 (Purchased) Props: • Trench coat for detective – (Borrowing) • Hat For the detective – (Already own) • Police officer outfit - £31.99 (Not yet purchased) • Ghost Face Mask - £1.29 (Not yet purchased) • Chucky Mask - £2.49 (Not yet purchased) • Freddy Krueger Costume -£20.00 (Not yet purchased) • Michael Myers mask - £3.75 (Not yet purchased) • Leather face Mask - £2.67 (Not yet purchased) • Jason Mask - £3.67 (Not purchased yet) All together the equipment cost is £105.21 and the Props and Costumes will come to £65.95 all together. This film will all together cost £171.16. This is not as much as I had originally expected it to cost. Initially from research I had expected it to cost around £305 But I have reduced the amount of costumes I needed and refined the story.
  • 5. Time This section is about the time that I will be allocating to aspects of my production and how many days the time allocated will be over. Its important that I come up with a plan of how much time I should be allowed on a certain area so that can stay on top of my production. Time that I have: Time on Production – 7 Weeks on the Project Hours in a week – 27 Hours Hours in the 7 weeks – 189 Hours Time that I'm allocating to filming and audio based on the weeks that I have to make the product: Hours on the filming – 50 hours Weeks – 2 weeks to use these 50 hours in Days – This will be Filmed over 7 different days Time I'm allocating to creating the soundtrack of the film: Hours on the Soundtrack – 15 Hours Days on the soundtrack – 4 Days Weeks – 1 Week to spend on the Soundtrack for the film Time I'm allocating to editing (premier pro and after affects): Hours on editing and after affects – 54 Hours to edit all the footage Days on the Editing – 7 Days Weeks – 2 Weeks will be put into editing.
  • 6. Time Time allocated to Reshoots: Hours – 24 Hours will be allocated to Reshoots Days – 4 Days Weeks – 1 Week I will only use one week for reshoots If I do not need this amount of time on reshoots any extra time will be allocated to editing, weekly reflection or soundtrack dependent on what needs improvements. Time allocated to weekly reflection: Hours – 46 will be put into weekly reflections Days – The weekly reflection will overlap with other parts of my production as I will be writing a reflection at the end of every day. Weeks – 2 (I will have time in the last two week to make sure that this final piece is complete).
  • 7. Personnel In this film that I'm using Various different people but some people will be playing multiple people and helping me with set up the equipment. I will be filming the scenes myself and directing the film, I will also be organizing and instructing the personnel that are doing the audio recording, lighting, fog machine etc.. I'm confident that the people I have chosen for this film are the right choice for my film. Director: • Luke Ross (Me) Equipment crew: • Tom Eastwood – Fog Machine • Jack Hickman and Kiernan Elsworth – Lighting • Tahmid Ahmid – Audio recording • Luke Ross (Me) – Camera Cast: • Connor Wiffen – Killer and Detective • James Case – Chase scene victim and victim 7 • Nathan Hooten – Victim 6 and victim 4 • Kiernan Elsworth – Police officer • Jack Hickman – Victim 2, 3 and 5 The reason that some people are playing multiple victims is because they will be dressed up and wearing masks, this means that there isn't a way that the audience will be able to tell it’s the same person playing the role. I feel that I have enough people to make my final product work, I have covered the base number of characters
  • 8. Meetings Meetings with Cast In preparation for filming, I needed to make sure that I had a crew that knew what they was doing, the best way that I could ensure this was by supplying the cast with and crew with a script and job roles before the time of filming, I felt it important to do this as before when I have asked people to come to help me with a project and given them all the information needed on where we would be meeting, how long it would be for and what their job role will entail and yet they I have had issues with people forgetting what was said or getting confused, this time I created a document for each of them that stated the information that they would be needing. I feel that its important that I provide this information on paper because this way I feel more confident that I have done all that I can do to make sure that everyone is prepared.
  • 9. Equipment (Production and Post) I will be using different types of equipment to film my production, make a soundtrack for my production and to create, collect audio for my production and edit the production as I put all the aspects together. Making the project wouldn’t be possible without this equipment which is why its important that I book out the equipment far in advance so that I have it ready to go on the day of filming. Filming equipment: • 600D Camera • 600D Camera Battery • 700D Camera • 700D Camera Battery • SD Card • Tri Pod • Boom Mic and Handheld • LED Lights and Rechargeable Battery's • Studio Lights • Fog Machine Editing Equipment and Programs: • Apple Mac • Adobe Premier Pro • Adobe After Affects This equipment I have either bought or will book out for the days of filming that I require them, I will be using all of this equipment in my project. Audio Equipment: • Handheld audio recorder Soundtrack Equipment and program: • Apple Mac • Garage Band • Various different Instruments Package • Memory Stick
  • 22. Materials (Costumes and Props) I will be using various different Costumes and props, the costumes and props are crucial to my project as they will immerse the audience in the story and the scenes Props: • Knife • Saw • Axe • Fake Blood • Sand bag • Chucky doll • Shovel Costume: • Michael Myers Mask • Freddy Krueger Hat and Glove • Jason mask (Friday the 13th • Ghost face Mask • Clown Mask These props and costumes will help set the tone and scene, what I intend to create is ambitious but with these costumes I can create something that is spot on if not then close enough to my plan and visual intension for my project. The costumes chosen will be mainly used in the crime scenes, this is where the majority of the of the costumes will be used. The majority of my props will be used in these scenes as well however the sand bag and knife will be used in the opening chase scene.
  • 23. Camera (settings, framing, angles etc…) In my project I will be using a range of different shots to convey different feelings and meaning in my short film. In the opening chase scene, the camera will follow the character being chased, the camera throughout the chase scene, although it will use different shots, as see from my research, using various different shots in a chase scene is a great way to get a god flow and keep the viewer/ audience entertained by the scene. When down the alley I will use the Dutch angle often to connotate how the victim is unaware of what's happening and the tight space will give the audience the feeling of a claustrophobic feel around he character. I will be adjusting the Aperture, ISO and Shutter speed on the camera based on what's required for the setting of the scene. I will be shooting the first scene at night in a street. This chase scene will move the character from a street walk, a house drive, alley by the house and a back Garden. This means that even though its dark there will be different lighting by deferent settings for example the street will have a street light where as the alley and wont. As I showed in my problem solving I will be using a LED Light in all of the scenes, this means that the ISO will be the same for pretty much for the majority of scenes, this means I can put more focus into the shutter speed and aperture to remove visual noise manually from each scene. Camera Angles and Shots that I will use in my film: • Medium shot • Tracking shot • Close up • Extreme close up • The Dutch angle • Low angle • Extreme close up • The over the shoulder shot The shots will be used in various different scenes, from a chase scene to a discovery scene and then finally the crime scenes. • Zoom in • Zoom out • Tracking zoom • Dolly zoom
  • 24. Sound (Ambience and Foley) In my project I will be using different sound affects, these are sound affects that I will be using I will collect the different sound affects with a audio recorder. I will record the sound separately because after research into videos looking into videos that have a heavy focus on sound affects in order to build suspense. I found that its important to record sound affects separately, this way I can use the volume of each sound differently and when the sounds are recorded separate I can change the output of volume better creating a more immersive scene with room to create a specific atmosphere that I want based on the affect that I am creating with the audio, an example of this is to have sound affects and Foley at low output but slowly make them louder and louder, this can be used to symbolize how the character is starting to think or become more aware of their surroundings and where they are. I feel that it will be important to my project to utilize this style of sound design because it could give my project the exact effect it needs for certain scenes. For the chase scene I will be collecting: • Footsteps • Running • Turning handle For the following blood trail scene I will use: • Footsteps • Door handle turning • Door Opening In my Crime scenes the shots will be mainly focused around soundtrack there wont be many sound affects, the one sound affect that I will use in these scenes will be a flash sound affect from the camera. The main focus in these scenes are going to be aimed around soundtrack, the soundtrack will have to create • Lock Turning • Gate Opening • Knocking • Walking down stairs • Wind blowing • Car driving • Wind blowing • Rain falling • Thunder Crackling • Thunder Crackling • Rain falling • Lock turning • Tapping • Knife slash • Falling • Knife Cut • Blood Splattering • Slow Walking • Falling on knees • Foot steps • Slipping on blood • Breathing heavy
  • 26. Audio levels, transitions, Jump cuts and colour correction In my editing I will need to heavily think about Audio levels, transitions, Jump cuts and colour correction, its important that these work effectively. when working out what level the different sound affects and soundtrack should be at depends on the scene. For the opening chase scene I will have a heavy focus on the running sound affect this means that the audio level for this part inperticular will be will be higher then others, I want the chase scene to be more focused around sound affects than soundtrack so the audio levels on the sound affects will be higher for example, gate opening, running, heavy breathing and turning lock. This brings more realism into the scene and makes the act and movement more believable, when the scene turns to the killer the soundtracks audio level will become higher than the sound affects in order to create more suspense around the killer. The audio level for the next scene will be an even mix of soundtrack and audio. On the opening titles there will be a focus of soundtrack so the audio level will be higher for the soundtrack, there will be some focus on sound affects like clocks ticking. My film will have quick cut transitions, this is to keep the film flowing, I feel that this is the best option for when switching from the chase scene to the discovering the dead body scene, the different time of day on the next scenes shows that time has passed so a quick cut transition would quickly match the scenes together. My film will have multiple jump cuts in the chase scene, this is to change the shot to give a better angle to show connotation and to what's happening. I will be colour correcting and colour grading all of the shots in my film, the colour I want to bring out n the chase scene is blue, from research I could see that blue had the best colour grade affect on night shots as long as it is at the right temperature and the right balance.
  • 27. Management Personnel – To manage my personal such as cast and crew I gave each documents the day before filming so that all members of the cast and crew knew exactly what they would be doing and where organised and prepared. I managed my crew by giving each a assigned task to follow and equipment. The fog machine has been assigned to Tom Eastwood, the audio equipment to Tahmid Ahmed and lighting to Jack Hickman. For the cast – in the chase scene I have two cast members, these are Jake Greenwood and Connor Wiffen, from research into slasher films it shows that the killers should be tall and towering to show how intimidating they are to other characters and I felt that Connor Wiffen was the best casting choice for this, I chose Jake Greenwood because I felt that his look and build and facial acting was best for this role. For the finding body scene I have one cast member who I feel is best fitted for this role. For my crime scenes I cast Connor Wiffen as the detective ( when playing the killer was wearing a mask so wouldn’t noticeable it’s the same actor) and for the crime scene Photographer I cast James Case, for the victim I could use people multiple times as each victim would be dressed differently and would be wearing a mask, so I cast Connor Garnett, Jake Greenwood and Jack Morton to play the victims, out of 7 victims it was decided they will change clothes on the day of filming. As for the crew on the crime scenes, this would be the same as the other two scenes. Order of completion – the first scene I will be shooting is the chase scene, I will be using multiple shots and as I want to get it right I have two nights to film in this location. On a separate day later on I will be filming the owner discovering the body scene I have the location for one day for this scene but if reshoots are needed there is room later on for another day. For the crime scenes I will be filming in four different locations for seven different scenes. I will have these locations for 2 days, I have arranged transport on these days to take me from one place to the other, I created a timetable for the cast and crew as some of these scenes are at night and some are during the day. I shall spend the next three weeks editing and adding in after affect. Within the second week I will create a soundtrack this is a different track for each scene. In the final week I shall create a poste for my film to finish off the product.
  • 28. Colour scheme Colour scheme (Grading) I have chosen twelve colours for my project that I could possibly use in my project, I chose twelve colours that I felt best fitted my project as I will need to colour grade in my film I feel that these colours will add a unique look to my project. The colours are set out so that on the left side there is a plain take and on the right side is gritty take on a colour. The first two colours that I have chosen are blue, one is gritty and one is more plain, I think these are two good options as I think that blue could add a unique look to the shots. I can achieve this in Premier Pro by adding noise (this is something I will experiment with during the grading) The codes of the colours are: • Blue = Safety • Red = Death violence which fits etc etc • Browns = Outdoor Urban • Green = Outdoors • Lighter colours are to experiment with contrast • Explanation of Grading approaches Colour scheme (Wardrobe) When designing the colour scheme for clothing and props I needed them to have relevance to the film and to add context, its important that the audience can associate different traits to characters and colour in wardrobe choice is a good way of doing this. For the opening chase scene as an example I had the person being chased was wearing dark clothing which shows he isn't innocent as isn't the Makeup – not used: No access to that resource – so no colour mapping for makeup Fake Blood – colour – cinema blood – worked well On screen Colour experiments for Titles still ongoing Filter For the filter of my film I am thinking a blue tint at a low temperature, this should make the blue visible in the darker areas making them stand out more, I feel that this will have a nice visual affect. Another filter option is for a green tint, not to heavy but just visible to bring more light and make the tone of the movie in the outdoor scenes look more natural. I feel this be a good look for the film, from experiments these two filters have the best look at night scenes.
  • 29. Style sheet Titles For the titles in my opening scene, I want a colour and style that stands out, the font has to bold and big but smart and readable, the colour has to stand out and fit with the tone and style of the film. I want to include different elements in my titles related to different styles, for example the font the style of a crime thriller. Title colours I want my titles to stand out, this means choosing a colour that glows on the screen looks visually pleasing, the colour that I feel fits this best is yellow or orange, these four colours fit the look best, the colour stands out in night shots and day shots, perfect for titles on the crime scene opening. The first colour has a shade to it although it looks nice I feel that its not bright enough to stand out or contrast with the look of the scenes. The main yellow colour is the best look as its bright, contrasts well with the scene, this is one that I will most likely be using. The two finale colours are orange a mix between orange, yellow and green but I feel I want either plain yellow or orange. Inspiration The watchmen intro style also uses Yellow, the way that this appears is visually pleasing, it contrasts really well with the colour grading on the image, my colours are styled the same way which is why using a similar colour would really benefit the design of the titles. I think that this image demonstrates how I can use lighting on the colour of the title to blend it in with the scene. With my film however I want my titles to stand out more with the colour so I will be going for a brighter yellow, I feel this is best because bright coloured text is also seen common detective films, which is what this film fits into.
  • 30. Image style Fonts Fonts For my tittles I will be wanting to have a standout font, the font will have be bold, rather than small thin text as I want the text to be a focus. After researching title sequences in movies it showed me that the best title sequences have their titles all in capital letters, this is what I believe fits best and will use this in my titles. Possible Fonts that could be used in titles or poster: • PRODUCTION • PRODUCTION • PRODUCTION • PRODUCTION • PRODUCTION • PRODUCTION • PRODUCTION • PRODUCTION • PRODUCTION • PRODUCTION These fonts have what I'm looking for, they are bold and stand out, I feel like the second to the top font ‘Calisto MT’ will work best out of the others on this particular list, it is bold and smart. Fonts individual letters I have found that to take an image as seen above and cut them into individual letters from the image on photoshop, is a lot better for getting the perfect look for the word I want spell out, this is because I can choose the distance between each letter, position each letter where I feel it fits best and change the size of each letter allowing me to create a more artistic and creative style to the look. Bold This font on the left is one that I feel will fit my product best, its big and bold and it looks neat and smart, I feel that using this choice will be the best look for my titles and the poster. If I apply the yellow colouring to this font and change the back shadow, I know I can make this look effective with the rest of my product. I believe that I can shape my product around this style of font, making the colour choices and style of font a defining factor for my project.
