The document outlines a student's idea for a slasher/horror short film project. The student wants to make a high quality production that shows off their camera and editing skills. They are inspired by classic slasher films like Scream and want to create tension and entertainment through the story, characters, and killer. The tone will be dark and gritty, filmed at night with stormy weather effects. Scenes will have an intense, shaky style to create a claustrophobic atmosphere and build suspense. The goal is to engage the audience by introducing likeable characters, shocking twists, and an entertaining killer.
1. Tell me in no more than20 words, what is your
FMP idea?
A Slasher/ Horrorshort film
Why have youdecided to makeit? I Slasher wouldbe really interesting to make, if I
putlots of effort into it I can definitely makeit like
a high quality production, I can have a fun killer
andstory and showoff my camera shotsandhow
affective I can use.
What aboutyourproject makesit importantto
you?
The Editing and Filming are importantto me, in
editing I’mable to create affects to addinto the
film andI can watch what I have filmed watch, as
my footage all comes togetherto create a movie,
this experience is importantto me. Being able to
tell a story is also importantto thisand gives me a
platform where I can make a story that I have
written a visualpiece.
Outline someof the initial influences onyour
idea/work and somepotential research targets
(remember, research isn’t justa paperbased
activity)
The idea thatI have from thiscomes from the
classic scream moviedirected andwritten by Wes
Craven, the film followed the concept of a killer
thatgoes aroundslashingpeople with knifes and
goes after a groupof people wearing a mask.
Since this film came out there havebeen more
scream moviesand otherSlasher film butas a
whole all the ones following the first scream
wasn’tgreat. Recently I havebeen watchingthe
Scream series which I felt broughtback the
tensionand fun aspectsto scream creating a good
story with great dialogue but doingit in a way that
is fun and entertainingto watch. They makethe
killer entertainingto watch and then they make
the main characters fun to watch sothat when
people are killed off yoursadand when it ends
yoursad butyoustill want toreach the end to
find out whothe killer is. This is my inspirationfor
makingthis; I want to bring my perspective of
what I love from these slashersand creating my
own versionof it.
What effect do youwant to haveon your
audience when they see yourproject?
I want my audience to have fun when watching
this, it hasto introducecharacters toget attached
to anda killer amongthem, I want the audience
to route for the characters so thatwhen they die
or youfind out one is the killer yourshocked.
2. Describe the tone/mood/styleofyourproject
[which productiontechniques/characteristicsare
youemploying?]
The tone of this shortfilm would be dark and
gritty, filmed ona nightand I wouldadd sound
affects andlighting affects so thatit will seem as
thoughit is stormy weather outsidethe house.
The moodof my shortfilm will be thrilling and
sad;because people will die in the film it is going
to be dark. The style will be Slasher, thisis where
the film is shotto be intense andshakey creating
a stuffy andclaustrophobiclike atmospherewhen
watching it, this wouldhowever be particular to
certain scenes as it wouldn’tbe like this is on
scenes where they’rejust talking.
Why have youdecided to makeyour project in
this style?
I havechosen to makeit in thisstyle because it is
best fitting to the typeof film I want to make;it
buildssuspenseand keepsthe audience
entertained, which is important.
