2. Objectives
The learner:
• demonstrates understanding of meter reading.
• is able to apply knowledge of meter reading in mathematical problems
and real-life situations.
• reads and interprets electric meter readings. M6ME-IVd-10
4. Ask the pupils the electrical appliances they have at
home. Elicit from them which of these consume the
most electricity.
Ask the pupils how much they pay for their monthly
electric bill. Get some reactions. How would you help
lessen your electric consumption? Why?
Motivation:
5. Group Activity
Analyze and study the table and compute the kwh
used.

7. Electric Meters:
How the dials of electric meter move? How do you read the dial
of a meter? How do you read the water meter? How do you
solve for the monthly consumption?
1. Always read all the dials from right to left, starting from Dial E to Dial A.
2. Read the number of the pointer of the dial. When the pointer is between
two numbers, the lower number is recorded
3. If the pointer appears to be exactly on a number, check the dial to the
right to find out the correct reading
• If the dial has passed zero, then make use of the smaller number, then make use
of the smaller number of the dial you are reading
• If the dial has passed zero, then make use of the smaller number, then make use
of the smaller number of the dial you are reading
9. Give the difference of:
1. 1 & 2 =
2. 3 & 4 =
3. 4 & 5 =
4. 1 & 3 =
Which has the greatest difference?
Which pair will have the biggest bill?

10. Study the table and compute the kwh used.
a) Which household consumed the most? the least?
b) Which two household consumed almost the same kwh?
What can you say about their bill?
c) As a member of the household, how can you lower your electric bill?
Why is it important to use electricity wisely?

If the dial on the right has passed zero, then use the number the
pointer is pointing on the dial you are reading
If the dial has passed zero, then make use of the smaller number,
then make use of thee smaller number of the dial you are reading
