Masthead The magazine have used a simple name that gives the reader a basic idea as to what genre the magazine is.  A eroded font has been used which roughens up the look of the magazine making it less clean cut to match the whole front cover. The eroded font suits the genre of music featured in the magazine.  Font style is also repeated in all of the cover lines.  This maintains a house style. Main Image Oli Sykes is the main image as he links to the main cover line in the left third, this shows who the main article in the mag will be about.  The strap line states ‘Saint or Sinner?’ The main image links to this by having a halo over Oli Sykes head with the light shining down on him.  Another link is that he has death tattooed across his knuckles.  This imaged would appeal to ‘ROCK SOUND’s’ target audience because it fits with the style of the magazine and who it’s aimed at.  The image juxtaposes two contrasting images, one of the angelic halo and one of the darker deathly tattoos.  Free Give Away The magazine have chosen to have freebees possible to draw more readers in or just because the typical reader the magazine is aimed at would be likely to want this freebee. Flash Usually used to draw attention to a feature in the magazine. Pull Quote This is a particularly interesting quote from the main article aimed at pulling the reader in and drawing more interest in the magazine.  This is in the left third which means it’s an important part of the front cover. Use of the language is used to draw readers in and encourage them to read the article. Lead Article The main cover line is normally put in the left third as it’s the first thing the reader sees to draw them in.  The main cover line normally tells the reader who or what the main feature is in the magazine, ‘bring me the horizon’ being so in this magazine. Colour Scheme This magazine has chosen to stick to a specific colour scheme with blues and white, keeps it simple yet effect and suit the style of the magazine.   Left Third The left third is traditionally known to be the most important side of the front cover, as it’s the first thing the reader sees that is supposed to draw them in. Cover lines Cover lines are all lines on the cover giving a preview of what is in the magazine.  This cover line has been used to link with the main image.  They have chosen to use a brighter colour to make it stand out, also a different font as been used that fit the meaning of the words more and also in order to help it catch the readers attention.  Strap Line Line used to re-enforce what the lead article is about in order to keep the reader interested.
 
 
Masthead This magazines masthead is a very neatly cut font, yet funky and modern which all suits the genre of this magazine.  The font colour is pink which makes it stand out even though it’s not the main focus on the front cover. Main Image The main image for mixmag magazine is also link to the main cover line.  This main image is obviously meant to stand out as the people have been placed in front of the magazine title.  The way they have been positioned and the image background shows that they are living ‘the high life’ which may be more likely to pull in readers as people tend to idolise famous people. Sky Line This is text placed above the masthead, mixmag have decided to state how big the magazine is.  Trying to make themselves look better and draw more people to this magazine. Free Give Away Mixmag magazine is known for giving free CD’s.  This magazine is mainly aimed at 18+ people as it’s a clubbing magazine, by giving away a freebee consumers may be more likely to buy the magazine and it advertises the artist or group. Lead Article Main cover line is normally what the main focus in the magazine is.  Mixmag have linked the main cover line with the main image, as most magazines do. They have also chosen to keep with the colour scheme but has had some effects added like a drop shadow which makes it stand out more.  It has been placed in the left third as it’s the first thing the reader will see and mixmag want this to stand out. Colour Scheme Mixmag have stuck to pink and white colour scheme.  Mixmag change colour schemes with each issue but always keep it bold and bright, which fits in with the clubbing theme that this magazine has. Left Third The left third is traditionally known to be the most important side of the front cover, as it’s the first thing the reader sees that is supposed to draw them in.  Mixmag have put there biggest article in this third and the free CD give away both these thing were put here in hope that this will attract consumers. Barcode Mixmag have chosen to have there barcode on the front cover, consumers can see price easily.  This has not been put in the left third though, to draw attention away from the price and to the main articles.
 
 
Masthead Kerang is a very popular magazine and always uses the same font for it’s masthead.  An eroded font with cutting lines through it.  Using white writing makes it stand out on the dark background. Main Image The main image is usually a picture of who the lead article is about, so that there is a link between the image and lead article.  Even thought the cover is very busy and full of cover lines and other pictures, this is still clearly the main image.  Ian Watkins has been styled and positioned in a way that suits the genre of the music magazine. Sky Line Kerrang have decided to use a pull quote from one of there articles for there skyline, to help draw more readers in and keep them interested in this magazine. Pull Quote Is a quote from the main article of the magazine, usually something interesting or catchy to keep readers interested.  People who normally buy Kerrang will know Ian Watkins and why this quote may relate to him which will be of interest to them.  This has been but on bold capitals in order to stand out from the background images. Flash & Free give aways Kerrang have used two flash boxes which are used to stand out and advertise something in or about the magazine.  Kerrang have chosen to put there ‘free give aways’ in flash boxes.  Doing this makes them stand out and hopefully catches the readers attention, have two give aways may help make the magazine more popular.  The flash boxes have also been put in the left third which is the section of the magazine that is first seen. The Left Third

Left Third The left third is traditionally known to be the most important side of the front cover, as it’s the first thing the reader sees that is supposed to draw them in. Cover lines Cover lines are all lines on the cover giving a preview of what is in the magazine. This cover line has been used to link with the main image. They have chosen to use a brighter colour to make it stand out, also a different font as been used that fit the meaning of the words more and also in order to help it catch the readers attention. Strap Line Line used to re-enforce what the lead article is about in order to keep the reader interested.

  • 4. Masthead This magazines masthead is a very neatly cut font, yet funky and modern which all suits the genre of this magazine. The font colour is pink which makes it stand out even though it’s not the main focus on the front cover. Main Image The main image for mixmag magazine is also link to the main cover line. This main image is obviously meant to stand out as the people have been placed in front of the magazine title. The way they have been positioned and the image background shows that they are living ‘the high life’ which may be more likely to pull in readers as people tend to idolise famous people. Sky Line This is text placed above the masthead, mixmag have decided to state how big the magazine is. Trying to make themselves look better and draw more people to this magazine. Free Give Away Mixmag magazine is known for giving free CD’s. This magazine is mainly aimed at 18+ people as it’s a clubbing magazine, by giving away a freebee consumers may be more likely to buy the magazine and it advertises the artist or group. Lead Article Main cover line is normally what the main focus in the magazine is. Mixmag have linked the main cover line with the main image, as most magazines do. They have also chosen to keep with the colour scheme but has had some effects added like a drop shadow which makes it stand out more. It has been placed in the left third as it’s the first thing the reader will see and mixmag want this to stand out. Colour Scheme Mixmag have stuck to pink and white colour scheme. Mixmag change colour schemes with each issue but always keep it bold and bright, which fits in with the clubbing theme that this magazine has. Barcode Mixmag have chosen to have there barcode on the front cover, consumers can see price easily. This has not been put in the left third though, to draw attention away from the price and to the main articles.

  • 7. Masthead Kerang is a very popular magazine and always uses the same font for it’s masthead. An eroded font with cutting lines through it. Using white writing makes it stand out on the dark background. Main Image The main image is usually a picture of who the lead article is about, so that there is a link between the image and lead article. Even thought the cover is very busy and full of cover lines and other pictures, this is still clearly the main image. Ian Watkins has been styled and positioned in a way that suits the genre of the music magazine. Sky Line Kerrang have decided to use a pull quote from one of there articles for there skyline, to help draw more readers in and keep them interested in this magazine. Pull Quote Is a quote from the main article of the magazine, usually something interesting or catchy to keep readers interested. People who normally buy Kerrang will know Ian Watkins and why this quote may relate to him which will be of interest to them. This has been but on bold capitals in order to stand out from the background images. Flash & Free give aways Kerrang have used two flash boxes which are used to stand out and advertise something in or about the magazine. Kerrang have chosen to put there ‘free give aways’ in flash boxes. Doing this makes them stand out and hopefully catches the readers attention, have two give aways may help make the magazine more popular. The flash boxes have also been put in the left third which is the section of the magazine that is first seen. The Left Third
